Lallemand has established Solyve as a dedicated commercial business unit focused exclusively on food and beverage enzymes.
The strategic realignment brings together the group's scientific research, commercial manufacturing, and application support teams under a single market-facing organisation. Anchored at its production and development centre in Colombelles, France, the business combines yeast-based enzyme expression with fungal solid-state fermentation capabilities to serve industrial food and drink processors globally.
The operational consolidation follows a sequence of strategic acquisitions by Lallemand across the biosolutions sector, creating a unified platform to support customer reformulation, processing efficiency, and yield optimisation.
Unified Enzyme Platform and Technical Capabilities
The establishment of Solyve provides commercial food and beverage manufacturers with a streamlined point of contact for technical enzyme development, formulation, and regulatory compliance.
Solyve integrates cross-functional capabilities spanning:
Fermentation Technologies: Combines yeast-based expression systems alongside fungal solid-state fermentation infrastructure.
Full-Lifecycle Technical Support: Centralises enzyme discovery, screening, application testing, quality control, and regulatory affairs management.
Operational Continuity: Maintains existing product brand identities, long-term customer partnerships, and international supply commitments without interruption.
Defne Saral has joined the organisation to lead Solyve, assuming executive oversight of the business unit's commercial development and expansion pipeline.
Lars Asferg, President and General Manager of Lallemand Bio-Ingredients, stated that establishing Solyve provides the organisation with a clearer identity, a distinct market presence, and a dedicated platform to scale its enzyme solutions across core food and beverage segments.
Expansion and Acquisition Integration
The creation of the dedicated unit builds upon Lallemand’s ongoing acquisition-led growth across the global biosolutions sector.
Lallemand Bio-Ingredients initially acquired the Solyve enzyme business from French agricultural group InVivo. By formalising Solyve as the commercial brand for its expanded food and drink operations, Lallemand establishes a unified operational identity for its enzyme capabilities.
The reorganisation also follows Lallemand's completed acquisition of US-based Bio-Cat Enzymes & Microbials in August 2026. That transaction expanded Lallemand's manufacturing footprint in North America, adding production capacity and technical capabilities across microbial fermentation, enzymes, and probiotics.
At the time of the deal, Lallemand Chief Executive Officer Antoine Chagnon noted that expanding manufacturing capacity supports long-term customer requirements across food ingredients, dietary supplements, and animal nutrition.
Industrial Demand for Processing Enzymes
The formal launch of Solyve coincides with broad industrial capital deployment across the commercial enzyme and fermentation sectors.
Food and beverage processors are increasingly adopting targeted biocatalysts to address production bottlenecks, manage raw material price volatility, and enhance manufacturing sustainability:
Yield Optimisation: Industrial enzymes enable dairy, brewing, and plant-protein processors to extract greater finished product volume from standard agricultural inputs.
Clean-Label Reformulation: Functional enzymes serve as biological alternatives to synthetic texturisers, emulsifiers, modified starches, and chemical stabilisers.
Contaminant Mitigation: Targeted enzymatic solutions are being integrated into beverage and extract lines to neutralise process contaminants, such as acrylamide, without altering flavour or finished texture.
By aligning its French fermentation infrastructure and technical teams under the Solyve banner, Lallemand positions its enzyme operations to support high-throughput food and drink manufacturers seeking scalable biological solutions.
