Instrumentation major KPM Analytics has announced the commercial launch of its MCT700 Series near-infrared (NIR) sensors, engineered specifically for continuous in-line quality measurement across food processing lines.
Installed directly over conveyors, augers, and chutes, the non-contact sensors enable food manufacturers to continuously measure moisture content, fat and oil levels, surface colour, and product temperature during active production.
The release enters the food manufacturing and industrial automation sector to support zero-defect quality targets across high-speed baking, frying, snack processing, and bulk ingredient manufacturing operations.
Real-Time Quality Control
The development of the MCT700 Series addresses an industry shift away from periodic manual sampling and offline laboratory testing toward automated, real-time quality monitoring.
By providing continuous data directly from the operating line, the instrumentation enables plant operators or automated control systems to make immediate adjustments to industrial ovens, fryers, and topical sprayers, reducing material giveaway and operational waste.
Chris Pike, Senior Director of Product Management at KPM Analytics, stated that continuous measurement allows processing facilities to respond rapidly to production deviations, supporting operational goals to improve throughput while lowering waste.
Sensor Specifications and Models
The MCT700 Series platform introduces three distinct hardware models formatted for varying environmental conditions and measurement parameters:
🎨 MCT790 NIR Sensor: Formatted to measure moisture, fat and oil, product temperature, and product colour. The unit features an IP69K-rated stainless-steel housing, an internal thermal management fan, and a sapphire sensor window engineered to withstand hot, wet, and high-pressure washdown environments.
💧 MCT700 NIR Sensor: Formatted for process locations where colour measurement is not required, providing IP67-rated protection with a standard Kel-F sensor window.
⚙️ MCT750 NIR Sensor: Engineered for demanding washdown environments where colour monitoring is not needed, featuring IP69K-rated protection, advanced thermal cooling, and a durable sapphire sensor window.
Integration and Data Diagnostics
To support multi-lane production lines and wide conveyor belts, each sensor model within the MCT700 Series can be integrated with a dedicated traversing frame.
Key functional capabilities and operational features of the series include:
⚡ High Speed Measurement: Delivers sampling speeds up to 100 readings per second, enabling precise measurement across segmented and moving bakery items such as cookies, biscuits, and crackers.
🌡️ Thermal Stability: Incorporates a temperature-controlled detector and internal cooling fan to maintain measurement stability under high ambient factory temperatures.
🧩 Modular Construction: Built using fully modular, field-replaceable components alongside advanced onboard diagnostics to simplify maintenance and reduce operational downtime.
🔍 Traversing Belt Scanning: Integrates with an optional traversing frame and move-and-park function to scan individual product lanes, providing targeted thermal and moisture profiles across multi-zone industrial ovens.
Commercial Availability and Integration
The MCT700, MCT750, and MCT790 NIR sensors are available for commercial ordering globally through KPM Analytics.
The launch provides industrial food processors, bakery chains, and snack food manufacturers with upgraded analytical hardware designed to standardise quality metrics across multi-site processing facilities.
