Cargill Bioindustrial has doubled the manufacturing capacity for its FR3 natural ester dielectric fluid following the completion of a new production line at its facility in Dilovası, Türkiye.

The investment enables the industrial and bioindustrial major to meet expanding international demand for high-performance transformer fluids, driven by rapid growth across data centres, artificial intelligence infrastructure, renewable energy installations, and industrial electrification.

In addition to increasing output for domestic and export markets, the project expands Dilovası’s role within Cargill's global bioindustrial manufacturing network while improving process and energy efficiency across the facility.

Rising Demand Driven by Data Centres and Electrification

The expansion comes as global power grids face heightened operational demands from high-load industrial environments. According to figures from the International Energy Agency, global electricity consumption by data centres is projected to more than double by 2030, reaching approximately 945 terawatt-hours.

These operational shifts require transformer infrastructure capable of running reliably under sustained high loads in critical environments, including data centres, hospitals, airports, battery energy storage systems, and wind and solar installations.

Renee van Schijndel, Senior Director Global Product Line Transformer Fluids at Cargill, stated that expanding production in Dilovası strengthens the business's ability to supply energy sector clients as they upgrade power systems to manage growing electricity demand.

Technical Specifications and Performance

Engineered from renewable vegetable oils, FR3 fluid is designed as a high-performance alternative to conventional mineral oil in electrical transformers, offering thermal stability and risk reduction.

Key technical specifications and environmental attributes of FR3 fluid include:

High Fire Point: Classified as a K-class fluid with a fire point of 350–360 °C, reducing fire risk compared with mineral oil.

🌱 High Bio-Based Content: Contains over 99 per cent bio-based content in accordance with ASTM D6866 standards.

💧 Rapid Biodegradability: Achieves 100 per cent biodegradation within 10 days per OPPTS 835.3100 testing parameters.

🔋 Asset Life Extension: Thermal properties slow the ageing of cellulosic insulation inside transformers, supporting higher load flexibility and longer equipment lifespan.

Cargill added a new production line at its Dilovası Bioindustrial facility to meet increasing demand from customers in Türkiye and international markets.

Strengthening Regional Supply

The capital project reinforces Cargill's capacity to supply transformer manufacturers in Türkiye, a major production hub serving international energy markets, while streamlining supply lines across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

Ramadan Küçük, Board Member of Cargill Türkiye, noted that the capacity expansion enables the business to execute customer orders more efficiently while supporting Türkiye’s role within the global value chain for advanced power equipment.

The expanded production line at the Dilovası plant is now fully operational, supporting Cargill's global bioindustrial footprint across power and industrial sectors.
