Yough, a startup specialising in protein-rich frozen pizza, has announced a strategic investment from Founders Row, a founder-focused investment platform and creative studio. The capital infusion coincides with Yough’s nationwide retail debut at Target, where the brand has secured placement in nearly 2,000 stores across the United States.
While the financial terms of the investment were not disclosed, the capital is earmarked for Yough’s national retail rollout, marketing initiatives, and continued product innovation.
The $7 billion U.S. frozen pizza category has long been dominated by legacy formulations. Yough aims to disrupt this mature market by focusing on the dough, using Greek yoghurt to create a protein-rich crust. This approach aligns with broader consumer shifts toward "better-for-you" comfort foods that offer improved nutritional profiles without sacrificing traditional flavour or texture.
"Frozen pizza is one of the most loved foods in the grocery store, but the foundation of pizza, the dough, has remained largely unchanged in the mainstream aisle," said Yough co-founder and CEO Mike Rolland.
Strategic Advisory and Portfolio Growth
Founders Row will serve as more than just a capital provider; the firm will act as a strategic advisor to the Yough team. This support includes brand-building resources, marketing strategy, and operational guidance as the startup scales its footprint following the Target launch.
Jess Yuan, Partner at Founders Row, noted that the investment targets founders who identify opportunities in mature categories through simple, effective ingredient innovation. Yuan emphasised that modern consumers are increasingly seeking everyday foods that deliver both comfort and real nutritional value.
Product Portfolio
The brand is launching at Target with three distinct varieties:
Mozzarella Cheese
Uncured Pepperoni
Farmer’s Vegetable
The product’s development was driven by a need for clean-label alternatives in the frozen aisle. Co-founder and COO Jason Miller began experimenting with Greek yoghurt dough following a health diagnosis, eventually spending years perfecting a crust that provides naturally occurring protein and simple ingredients.
High Protein Comfort Foods
The Target launch marks a significant milestone for Yough, placing a new brand in one of the country’s largest retail environments immediately upon debut. Moving forward, the company intends to build a broader platform around high-protein comfort foods, leveraging the Greek yoghurt dough technology for additional product categories.
This investment and retail expansion reinforce the growing intersection of venture capital and functional food innovation, as investment platforms like Founders Row seek out brands that can modernise staple grocery categories.
