- 16 Handles Debuts Industry-First 'Strawberry Kefir Tart' Soft Serve Nationwide | FNBX
Upscale frozen yogurt franchise 16 Handles has announced a significant technical innovation within the frozen dessert category, introducing what it claims to be the industry's first Strawberry Kefir Tart Probiotic Soft Serve. comments debug Exchange Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. The Newsroom Upscale frozen yogurt franchise 16 Handles has announced a significant technical innovation within the frozen dessert category, introducing what it claims to be the industry's first Strawberry Kefir Tart Probiotic Soft Serve . Launching nationwide on 16 January as a limited-time offering (LTO), the new flavour profile transforms the traditional fermented dairy product into a frozen format, positioning it as a functional "meal replacement" or nutrient-dense treat. Product Architecture: Fermentation Meets Frozen The launch addresses the "better-for-you" dairy trend by leveraging kefir, a fermented milk product known for its distinct nutritional profile. Unlike standard frozen yogurt, this formulation is naturally rich in live probiotics, protein, and calcium. Key Functional Benefits: Gut Health: High probiotic content to support the microbiome. Digestibility: The fermentation process naturally reduces lactose content, making it more accessible to those with sensitivity to traditional dairy. Sensory Profile: The "Strawberry Kefir Tart" flavour balances the signature tangy acidity of kefir with real strawberry fruit notes to create a creamy, refreshing finish. R&D and Strategic Context The product represents the culmination of over a year of testing and refinement. 16 Handles aims to bridge the gap between the functional dairy aisle—where kefir has seen rising popularity—and the foodservice dessert sector. Neil Hershman , CEO of 16 Handles, commented on the market gap: "Consumers are increasingly talking about kefir as a better-for-you dairy option, but until now, no one has brought it into the frozen dessert space. Our Strawberry Kefir Soft Serve delivers the signature tang you expect from kefir... We're excited to introduce a nutrient-forward treat that fits a wide range of lifestyles." Innovation Track Record This release continues the brand's strategy of high-frequency, experimental flavour drops designed to drive footfall and social media engagement. Previous LTOs have included unconventional profiles such as French Fry , Squid Ink , and Dubai Chocolate , alongside alternative bases like Mango Lassi and proprietary Oat Milk options. - American Packaging Corporation Enhances Fresh Produce Packaging | FNBX
American Packaging Corporation introduces flexible packaging solutions for the fresh produce sector, focusing on extended shelf life comments debug Exchange Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. The Newsroom American Packaging Corporation (APC) is emphasising its flexible packaging portfolio tailored to the fresh produce industry. As consumer demand for minimally processed, healthy food options such as salad kits, pre-cut vegetables, and fruits continues to grow, the requirement for packaging that maintains product integrity from the field to the kitchen has become a focal point for the supply chain. Technical Performance in Preservation APC has developed a series of conventional and Design for Recycle packaging structures intended to balance the preservation needs of a wide range of produce. The effectiveness of this packaging relies on engineering for specific oxygen transmission rates (OTR) and moisture vapour transmission rates (MVTR). By managing these variables, the packaging helps optimise the internal atmosphere, thereby extending the shelf life of fresh produce and assisting in the reduction of food waste. The company provides various formats including rollstock, preformed pouches, and lidding options. These are designed to meet the rigorous handling requirements involved in moving product from processing lines to retail shelves. Consumer Convenience and Shelf Appeal Beyond preservation, the current packaging solutions incorporate features designed to improve the consumer experience and increase visual appeal at the point of sale. Key attributes of the APC packaging range include: Shelf Appeal: Designs that impactfully convey brand attributes and product benefits to consumers. Product Visibility: The use of anti-fog coatings and clear window designs to ensure the freshness of the product is visible. Convenience Features: Integration of easy-open and resealable closures to support consumer utility. Format Versatility: Availability of various structures, including grab-and-go formats, to suit different retail environments. Commitment to Sustainability As the industry faces increasing pressure to mitigate the impact of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations, APC is prioritising its Design for Recycle packaging solutions. By integrating these structures into its portfolio, the company aims to provide brand owners with options that maintain high performance standards while addressing the growing necessity for more sustainable packaging materials. These initiatives reflect a broader effort to protect the nutritional quality of produce while offering a practical solution for the ongoing challenges of retail distribution and food waste management. - Ore-Ida Launches New Tater Tot Shapes After 20 Years | FNBX
Ore-Ida debuts Dino and Star Tater Tots, marking its first shape-based portfolio expansion in 20 years to target the growing demand for nostalgic formats. comments debug Exchange Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. Featured in this news Food Kraft Heinz The Newsroom Ore-Ida has unveiled its most significant portfolio modernisation in twenty years with the introduction of Dino and Star Tater Tots. As the brand that originally brought the Tater Tot to market over seven decades ago, the move signals a strategic shift toward "sensory-led" innovation, designed to add personality and engagement to the freezer aisle. The launch is a central component of the brand’s "Ore-Ida or Nothing" platform, which aims to reinforce the company’s heritage and quality credentials in a category that has increasingly shifted toward private-label and commodity-style competition. Capturing the Category Whitespace The decision to diversify into playful shapes is supported by a clear gap in the current retail landscape. Internal industry data cited by Ore-Ida reveals that fewer than 1 per cent of frozen potato products currently offer "fun" or novel shapes beyond standard cylinders and fries. Claire Lukaszewski, Senior Brand Manager at Ore-Ida, stated that the brand is "shaping what comes next" by building on 70 years of potato expertise. By introducing formats that feel relevant to today’s families and "kidult" demographics, those seeking nostalgia-driven food experiences, Ore-Ida is positioning itself to lead a high-margin sub-sector of the frozen convenience market. Product Profiles and America 250 Partnership The new permanent additions utilise the brand's signature "crispy-outside, fluffy-inside" technical formulation, ensuring that the move into novelty shapes does not compromise the expected sensory profile. The Launch SKUs include: Dino Tater Tots 🦖 Designed to tap into the cross-generational fascination with prehistoric themes. This format targets the high-velocity "family mealtime" occasion, providing an easy, high-engagement solution for parents. Star Tater Tots ⭐️ Launched as a celebratory format, this SKU is an official partner of "America 250." To mark the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026, the product will debut with limited-edition commemorative packaging, targeting the peak summer grilling and patriotic merchandising windows. Multi-Year Innovation Roadmap Ore-Ida is positioning these two releases as the "foundation" for a broader, long-term innovation pipeline. The company has confirmed that additional shapes are already in the R&D phase, scheduled for a phased rollout throughout 2027. By leveraging its high brand trust—a critical differentiator as younger consumers gravitate toward heritage brands that offer modernised formats—Ore-Ida is effectively de-risking its entry into the "novelty" segment. As grocery retailers continue to seek products that drive "incremental excitement" in the freezer aisle, Ore-Ida’s move into shape-based functional foods sets a new benchmark for the category. - Urban Remedy Expands Best-Selling Collagen Shake Line with Strawberry Launch | FNBX
Urban Remedy expands its top-performing Protein Collagen Meal Shake line with a new Strawberry variety, delivering 30g of protein and 10g of grass-fed organic collagen to address the growing B2B market for low-glycemic, clean-label functional nutrition. comments debug Exchange Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. Featured in this news Health & Nutrition Urban Remedy The Newsroom Urban Remedy, a prominent player in the certified organic ready-to-eat (RTE) sector, has announced the expansion of its functional beverage portfolio with the launch of the Strawberry Organic Protein Collagen Meal Shake. This introduction follows the significant commercial success of the line's initial Chocolate and Vanilla offerings, which have become the brand's top-selling beverages since their 2024 debut. The expansion signals a strategic move to capitalize on the convergence of the high-protein and collagen supplement markets within a single, grab-and-go format. Market Performance and Portfolio Expansion The decision to add a third flavor profile was driven by robust consumer sell-through data. In an industry where ultra-processed meal replacements often dominate the convenience category, Urban Remedy’s protein-collagen hybrid has outperformed traditional beverages by targeting "modern wellness seekers" who prioritize ingredient transparency. "The strong response to our Protein Collagen Meal Shakes confirms that consumers are seeking functional nutrition that delivers measurable benefits without the negative aspects of ultra-processed foods," stated Steven Naccarato, CEO of Urban Remedy. This expansion reinforces the brand’s "Food is Medicine™" mission, positioning functional beverages as a viable alternative to traditional recovery and meal-replacement drinks. Technical Specifications: The Collagen-Protein Hybrid Urban Remedy’s formulation addresses the dual demand for muscle recovery and aesthetic/joint health (the "beauty-from-within" trend). The Strawberry variety maintains the line’s strict nutritional parameters: Protein Density: Each 16oz bottle delivers 28–30g of protein. Collagen Integration: 10g of grass-fed, organic, hydrolyzed Type I and III collagen peptides, optimized for bioavailability. Glycemic Profile: 0g of added sugar; the product is naturally sweetened with dates to maintain a low-glycemic index. Amino Acid Profile: Contains 18 amino acids to support sustained energy and muscle tissue repair. By utilizing hydrolyzed collagen—a process where collagen fibers are broken down into small peptides—the brand ensures higher absorption rates compared to non-hydrolyzed alternatives, a key selling point for the nutraceutical-savvy consumer. Clean Label Standards and Supply Chain Integrity The brand continues to differentiate itself through "uncompromising standards" in an increasingly crowded organic market. Founder and Chief Product Officer Neka Pasquale emphasized that the success of the line validates the demand for 100% clean, certified organic ingredients selected for their specific functional properties. This approach avoids the synthetic thickeners and artificial sweeteners commonly found in the RTD (ready-to-drink) protein category. Distribution and Retail Strategy Urban Remedy is utilizing its established retail footprint to drive the Strawberry launch. The product is now available through: Whole Foods Market: Specialized grab-and-go kiosks nationwide. E-commerce: Available via Whole Foods Market on Amazon. Pricing: The 16oz bottles carry a suggested retail price (SRP) of $9.99. This premium pricing reflects the high cost of organic, grass-fed hydrolyzed collagen and the brand's positioning within the "ultra-clean" functional food tier. As the RTE meal and functional beverage sectors continue to merge, Urban Remedy’s expansion suggests a long-term commitment to high-density, low-processing nutrition. The Newsroom Pacific Northwest dairy brand Alpenrose has announced a major restructuring of its manufacturing footprint, confirming plans to cease production at its facility in Clackamas, Oregon , effective 31 March 2026 . The decision marks a consolidation of operations designed to streamline the business. While the Clackamas site—responsible for butter, sour cream, and ice cream mix manufacturing—will wind down, the company has assured consumers that the brand remains active. Fresh milk production will continue at the company's facility in Kent, Washington , ensuring that Alpenrose milk and cottage cheese remain available at grocery stores across the region. Asset Disposition and Potential Auction To facilitate the transition, Alpenrose has retained Harry Davis & Company (HDC) , a specialist in dairy industry asset sales, to market the Clackamas operations. The strategy involves seeking a strategic operator to acquire the turnkey facility. However, HDC has confirmed that if a buyer is not identified in advance, the equipment assets will be offered at a public auction scheduled for Wednesday, 20 May 2026 . Lenny Davis , CEO of Harry Davis & Company, highlighted the significance of the assets entering the secondary market: "The opportunity to acquire the Clackamas facility, with its capability to produce butter, ice cream mix, and cultured products, is one we rarely see become available. The Newsroom Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines have announced a comprehensive refresh of their onboard beverage portfolios, introducing regional partnerships, premium wines, and targeted functional beverages across domestic and international routes for the summer 2026 travel season. The rollout represents a coordinated commercial effort to enhance the guest experience across both carriers. By combining premium international brands with prominent West Coast and Hawaiian producers, the airlines aim to standardise and premiumise their food and beverage offerings across all cabins. The initiative comes during a period of active passenger volume growth, as airlines increasingly leverage curated food and beverage programmes to differentiate their hospitality services and drive brand advocacy. Onboard Hospitality Premiumisation The development of the summer beverage programme represents a structured effort to align the onboard experience across both the Alaska and Hawaiian brands. By consolidating their beverage programs, the airlines can leverage combined purchasing power to secure allocations from high-equity global wine estates and craft beverage producers. The investment focuses on delivering a restaurant-quality dining experience in the sky, pairing sophisticated flavour profiles with the airlines' multi-course international menus. According to Mark Krolick, Managing Director of Products and Guest Experience at Alaska Airlines, the summer refresh is designed to meet passenger demand for craftsmanship and regional discovery, showcasing brands with strong geographical ties to the West Coast and the Hawaiian Islands. Cold Brew Innovation A central element of the summer launch is the expansion of Alaska Airlines' existing relationship with Oregon-headquartered Stumptown Coffee Roasters. The partnership introduces Stumptown Copilot Cold Brew, a product developed specifically for the aviation environment. The beverage is manufactured in small batches utilising ethically sourced coffee beans and purified water, delivering a smooth, chocolatey finish. The operational and service structure of the cold brew rollout includes: Flight Accessibility – Stocked exclusively on select domestic Alaska Airlines routes exceeding 350 miles, alongside direct flights to and from Reykjavík, Iceland. Cabin Distribution – Distributed as a complimentary beverage for passengers travelling in First Class and Premium Class. Main Cabin Sales – Offered as an on-board retail purchase option for passengers seated in the Main Cabin. Commercial Exclusivity – Packaged in a dedicated format that is available only on board Alaska Airlines flights and excluded from standard retail channels. Curated Wine Selections and Corporate Social Responsibility The cornerstone of the premium portfolio update is a newly designed international business class wine programme, which has been deployed across the long-haul networks of both carriers. The summer wine list includes several prominent estate-produced vintages: 🍾 Louis Roederer Collection Champagne – A refined, estate-produced French champagne featuring bright citrus and delicate toasted notes. 🍷 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Armillary Cabernet Sauvignon – A rich, expressive red wine displaying layers of dark fruit. 🥂 Paul Hobbs Russian River Chardonnay – A balanced white wine with orchard fruit and citrus zest. For Main Cabin passengers travelling on domestic routes, Hawaiian Airlines has introduced Tide & Vine, a dedicated wine programme designed to bring a sense of place to the in-flight experience. The selection includes a red blend, a white blend, and brut bubbles. Beyond the glass, the Tide & Vine initiative is integrated into Hawaiian Airlines' broader corporate social responsibility (CSR) framework. A portion of all proceeds from the wine sales is donated to Mālama Maunalua, a regional non-profit organisation dedicated to the ecological restoration and protection of Maunalua Bay on Oʻahu. The conservation partnership is supported by community volunteering. To mark World Oceans Day, a team of 25 volunteers from Hawaiian Airlines and Tide & Vine collaborated with the non-profit to extract more than 260 pounds of invasive algae species—including gorilla ogo, prickly seaweed, and leather mudweed—from the nearshore waters of Maunalua Bay. Over the past 17 years, the non-profit's community restoration projects have removed approximately 4 million pounds of invasive marine plants from the region. The Newsroom London-based functional wellness brand Spacegoods has announced the expansion of its flagship adaptogenic mushroom powder line, Rainbow Dust, with a new Coffee Hazelnut flavour. The product launch represents the company's ongoing effort to capture market share within the rapidly growing functional beverage sector by appealing to traditional coffee drinkers seeking enhanced cognitive and wellness benefits. Expanding the Functional Beverage Portfolio The functional coffee and mushroom blend market has seen sustained growth as consumers increasingly seek out products offering benefits beyond basic hydration and caffeine stimulation. Spacegoods’ Rainbow Dust has established a presence in this category through its proprietary blend of functional mushrooms and adaptogens, including Lion's Mane, Cordyceps, Chaga, Ashwagandha, and Maca extract. The introduction of the Coffee Hazelnut iteration serves as a strategic portfolio expansion. It is designed to provide the same functional benefits, such as sustained energy, improved focus, and reduced jitters, while closely mimicking a traditional coffeehouse experience. Flavour Profile Formulation Flavour innovation remains a critical driver for consumer adoption in the functional food and beverage industry. Historically, the earthy or bitter taste profiles associated with functional mushrooms and raw adaptogens have acted as a barrier to entry for mainstream consumers. By formulating a classic Coffee Hazelnut profile, Spacegoods is directly addressing this hurdle. Key advantages of this flavour strategy include: Mainstream Appeal: Leveraging a universally recognised and popular coffee syrup flavour to attract traditional coffee consumers. Taste Masking : Utilising the robust notes of roasted coffee and sweet hazelnut to effectively balance the earthy undertones of the mushroom extracts. Routine Integration: Allowing consumers to seamlessly replace their standard morning coffee without sacrificing their preferred taste experience.
