Tostitos, the leading unflavoured tortilla chip brand in the United States, has announced its entry into the refrigerated aisle with the launch of Tostitos Chunky Guacamole. Arriving in retail this autumn, the new product line marks a significant category expansion for the PepsiCo Foods US brand, moving beyond its traditional shelf-stable dip portfolio to meet the rising demand for fresh-format snacking solutions.


The move is designed to unlock new meal occasions ranging from portion-controlled on-the-go snacking to high-volume at-home entertaining.

The decision to enter the refrigerated guacamole segment is supported by clear consumer consumption patterns. Currently, "chips and guac" remains one of the most prominent snack pairings in the United States, with approximately 64% of consumers reporting that they eat guacamole specifically with tortilla chips.


Courtney Larson, vice president at PepsiCo Foods US, stated that the brand set out to create a product that serves as the definitive answer for the "best-tasting guacamole for chips." By leveraging Tostitos' dominant position in the tortilla chip market, the company aims to drive cross-category conversion and increase the average basket value for the snacking aisle.


Technical Formulation and Clean Label Standards

Tostitos Chunky Guacamole is engineered to replicate a "from-scratch" culinary experience while providing the convenience of a ready-to-serve format. The product starts with fresh Hass avocados and incorporates a chunky texture to enhance the dipping experience.


Key Technical and Dietary Specifications


  • Ingredients: A blend of fresh Hass avocados, onions, tomatoes, jalapeño peppers, and spices, finished with a hint of lime.


  • Clean Label Profile: Formulated with no artificial colours, flavours, or preservatives.

  • Texture Profile: Focus on "chunky" consistency to differentiate the product from smoother, highly processed alternatives.



Operational Sizing and Usage Occasions

To ensure maximum market penetration, Tostitos is launching the guacamole in three distinct packaging formats, each targeting a specific consumer behaviour:


  • 8 oz. Tub: Targeted at everyday snacking and small-scale meal pairings.


  • 15 oz. Tub: Optimised for social gatherings, hosting, and game-day celebrations.


  • 6-Count 2 oz. Singles: Designed for on-the-go convenience, lunch boxes, and portion-controlled consumption.



This multi-format strategy allows the brand to compete in both the bulk-buy grocery segment and the immediate-consumption convenience channel.



Brand Activation and Casa de Tostitos Event

To support the launch and a refreshed brand identity, Tostitos is debuting an experiential marketing event titled "Casa de Tostitos" in New York City from 1–3 May. The multi-sensory pop-up is designed to showcase the brand’s commitment to "craft, quality, and connection."


The event will feature:


  • Live Demonstrations: Small-scale masa-making to illustrate the brand's "corn to chip" journey.


  • Culinary Collaboration: Partnering with local chefs and restaurateurs to create corn-inspired dishes.


  • Multi-Sensory Engagement: Interactive entertainment reflecting the "fiesta spirit" associated with the Tostitos brand.




The entry of a major player like Tostitos into the refrigerated dip category signals a broader shift in the perimeter of the grocery store. As consumers increasingly prioritise fresh, minimally processed ingredients, heritage brands are being forced to innovate outside of the centre-store aisles.


By merging its established brand equity in chips with a premium, refrigerated guacamole offering, Tostitos is positioning itself as a comprehensive solution provider for the modern snacking consumer. Industry analysts expect the fall launch to drive significant trial, particularly as the brand utilises its massive retail distribution network to secure premium placement in the refrigerated produce and deli sections.
