Oatly has expanded its UK beverage portfolio with the introduction of two fibre-enriched oat drinks formulated to support daily digestive health.
The lineup introduces the Fibre Barista Edition and the Fibre Low-Cal Edition, entering retail with an initial commercial debut in Sainsbury's at a recommended retail price (RRP) of £2.40 per 1-litre carton. Distribution is scheduled to expand across additional UK grocery retailers through October.
The development responds to persistent nutritional shortfalls in the domestic diet, commonly referred to as the nation's "fibre gap". While UK government dietary guidelines recommend a daily intake of 30g of dietary fibre, the average British adult consumes approximately 14g below this target, with only 4% of the population estimated to meet daily requirements.

Functional Formulations and Product Formats
Both products deliver 5g of dietary fibre per 250ml serving, allowing consumers to increase daily nutrient intake through standard beverage occasions:
ā Fibre Barista Edition: Formulated specifically for coffee applications, the variant is engineered to perform in hot drinks without compromising texture, microfoam stability, or flavour. The formulation is low in sugars and saturated fats, while providing supplementary micronutrients including calcium, iodine, and vitamins B2 and D.
š„ Fibre Low-Cal Edition: Developed for smoothies, blended shakes, and everyday breakfast use, the formulation delivers 5g of fibre per serving with zero sugar. The variant contains 20 kcal per 100ml.
The product development draws on oats' natural content of beta-glucans, a soluble dietary fibre associated with cholesterol reduction and digestive regulation. Oatly utilised its processing technologies and oat research to retain native fibre fractions while maintaining liquid emulsion stability.
"With most people in the UK not consuming enough fibre, getting an extra 5g can be as simple as choosing an oat drink that's designed with fibre in mind," said Kate Overy, registered nutritionist and nutrition science and communications lead at Oatly. "It's a convenient, everyday choice that can help contribute to fibre intake without dramatically changing daily habits."
Functional Ingredients
The introduction reflects wider category efforts across plant-based dairy alternatives to integrate functional health benefits beyond basic dairy substitution.
Because dietary fibre is derived exclusively from plant matrices, plant-based beverage manufacturers maintain an inherent technical advantage over conventional bovine milk in delivering natural fibre content. By positioning fibre additions within high-frequency coffee and breakfast routines, Oatly aims to drive category trade-up among health-focused consumers seeking convenient nutritional enrichment.
Retail Availability and Rollout
The Fibre Barista Edition and Fibre Low-Cal Edition are currently available across Sainsbury's supermarket stores nationwide.
The initial listings will be followed by wider commercial distribution across UK grocery multiples and digital supermarket channels throughout October.
