Impossible Foods

Impossible Foods has entered the UK grocery retail sector, launching four frozen meat-alternative lines in partnership with the nation's largest supermarket operator, Tesco.

Rolling out to select Tesco supermarkets nationwide and online this week, the product launch marks the California-headquartered producer's initial entry into British home kitchens. While Impossible Foods has maintained a presence across UK foodservice and restaurant operators since 2022, the retail agreement with Tesco expands its commercial reach into mainstream domestic shopping baskets.

The debut follows the company's broader European expansion strategy, succeeding its continental retail launch earlier this year with supermarket chain Jumbo in the Netherlands.

"Launching in UK retail is a meaningful step forward for our company. We’re confident we’re putting our best foot forward with a range of products designed around the flavours and formats people already love," said Meredith Madden, Chief Demand Officer at Impossible Foods.

"Having a great partner is key, and we’re grateful to be working with Tesco to finally bring Impossible Foods to grocery aisles across the UK."

Frozen Product Lineup

Impossible Foods is introducing four frozen SKUs spanning beef and poultry alternatives, formulated specifically to meet European and UK regulatory standards and consumer taste profiles:

🍔 Impossible Burger Patties: Formulated specifically for European markets, the patties deliver the textured profile of the brand's core US beef alternative, providing 18 grams of protein and 4 grams of dietary fibre per patty.

🍗 Impossible Smoky Chipotle "Chicken" Pieces: The producer's first whole-muscle plant-based chicken format, engineered to replicate the fibrous grain of poultry breast and providing 21 grams of protein and 3.9 grams of fibre per 100g.

🍟 Impossible Spicy "Chicken" Fries: A convenience-led finger food format coated in a seasoned batter, delivering 13 grams of protein and 4 grams of fibre per 100g.

🧆 Impossible "Beef" Kofta: Pre-cooked savoury kofta portions seasoned with Mediterranean herbs and spices, formulated with 17 grams of protein and 5 grams of fibre per 100g.

European Manufacturing

A key operational development underpinning the UK retail launch is the sourcing model. All four products are among the first commercial lines manufactured at Impossible Foods' new dedicated co-manufacturing facility in Europe.

Establishing local contract manufacturing infrastructure allows the company to reduce transatlantic freight overheads, avoid supply chain lead-time volatility, and comply directly with UK and EU ingredient and labelling standards.

"We’re coming into this retail market with some fresh new energy," said James Hemmings, Vice President Commercial, EMEA at Impossible Foods.

"There’s already a strong base of plant-based shoppers in the UK, but there are even more consumers out there who are curious to try products that deliver on taste, convenience and versatility. Teaming up with Tesco gives us a great opportunity to meet these consumers where they shop with meaty, flavour-packed options that bring something different and exciting to the table."

Retail Rollout and Distribution

Commercial distribution for the four-SKU line has commenced across select Tesco supermarket locations throughout the UK, supported by online listings via Tesco's digital grocery platform.

The products are merchandised within dedicated supermarket freezer cabinets, aligning with consumer demand for extended shelf-life and reduced domestic food waste across chilled and frozen alternative protein categories.
