Global CPG and coffeehouse chain Luckin Coffee has announced a co-branded promotional partnership with language-learning platform Duolingo. The short-term activation represents Luckin Coffee's first commercial brand collaboration in the United States as the tech-focused coffee operator expands its physical footprint across New York City.

Rolling out in two distinct operational phases across the late-summer trading window and back-to-school period, the campaign combines new seasonal beverage formulations with co-branded merchandise, custom secondary packaging, and digital marketing integrations targeting Gen Z consumer demographics.

Gen Z Marketing and Seasonal Campaign Architecture

The marketing push is structured around two thematic consumer touchpoints designed to capture study-break and warm-weather footfall:

  • Study Now or I Get Icy: The initial late-summer activation window celebrating summer study routines with tropical cold beverage formulations.

  • Time to Luckin and Learn: The subsequent back-to-school phase positioning coffee and functional tea beverages as daily study companions for returning university and high school students.

Mai Shi, Head of Marketing at Luckin Coffee, stated that the partnership unites Duolingo's brand identity with Luckin's menu innovation to engage digital-first consumers through shareable, daily-ritual touchpoints during peak seasonal academic transitions.

Kat Chan, Senior Director of Brand Marketing at Duolingo, added that integrating the learning platform into everyday QSR coffee runs allows the brand to embed its personality directly into routine consumer habits.

Beverage Lineup and Flavour Formulations

The partnership features four targeted beverage SKUs, incorporating two newly formulated seasonal options alongside two established core menu variants:

🍍 Piña Colada Mocktail: An all-new zero-alcohol formulation blending tropical pineapple and creamy coconut notes over iced bases.

🥥 Pineapple Coconut Refresher: A light, cold fruit beverage engineered for warm-weather consumption.

🌅 Pink Sunrise: A returning fruit-forward iced beverage featuring vibrant layered visual aesthetics.

🥭 Mango Cloud Frappe: A returning blended frappe format featuring mango purée and whipped toppings.

Co-Branded Packaging and Merchandise Execution

To drive order frequency and average basket spend across its digital ordering application and physical stores, Luckin Coffee is deploying custom co-branded secondary packaging and collectable retail merchandise.

Key promotional and packaging components include:

  • Custom Packaging: Specially designed hot and iced beverage cups featuring Duolingo character illustrations.

  • Collectable Retail Accessories: Branded stickers, notebooks, bookmarks, and study accessories offered as order add-ons and digital loyalty rewards.

  • Targeted Footprint: Commercial rollout restricted to participating Luckin Coffee store locations across New York City for a limited time while stocks last.
