Email* Submit or create an account to access more > The Magnum Ice Cream Company has announced the opening of its new Research, Design and Innovation (RD&I) Centre in Bengaluru, India. Located in the technology hub of Whitefield, the 13,000-square-foot facility is designed to serve as a hub for ice cream science, packaging development, and consumer technical insights. The launch aims to support and accelerate product and packaging development across several of the company's brands, including Kwality Wall’s, Cornetto, Magnum, Carte D’Or, Feast, and Twister. Technical Capabilities and Local Infrastructure The newly established facility houses a state-of-the-art laboratory and a digitally enabled pilot plant, allowing for rapid product experimentation. It is equipped to handle the development and testing of multiple product formats, including: Cups and tubs Sticks and bars Cones Kulfi Premium ice cream cakes To ensure that newly developed products can withstand the demanding logistics of the Indian market, the centre features specialised equipment for cold-chain and climate testing, 3D packaging prototyping, and transport simulations. These systems allow technical teams to validate product stability under diverse environmental and transport conditions before commercial scale-up. By basing the centre in Bengaluru, the company aims to leverage the city's established food science infrastructure, raw material suppliers, and agricultural technology start-up network. Collaborative Global Research Network The Bengaluru RD&I Centre will not operate in isolation. The facility is structured to collaborate closely with the company’s Global Design Centre in Colworth, UK, and its Regional Innovation Hub in Istanbul, Turkey. This collaborative model is designed to combine global technical expertise with deep local market insights, allowing the company to adapt international dairy platforms to suit local consumer tastes and cultural occasions. According to Zbigniew Lewicki, Chief Research, Development and Innovation Officer at The Magnum Ice Cream Company, having localised R&D infrastructure is essential for transforming ideas into market-ready products quickly in highly dynamic consumer environments. The investment in the Bengaluru facility comes as the Indian ice cream market experiences steady growth, characterised by evolving consumer expectations, demand for premiumisation, and a rising interest in diverse flavour profiles. Kwality Wall’s has operated in the Indian market for over seven decades. The integration of this local brand heritage with the technical resources of the parent company is expected to improve speed-to-market for seasonal product launches and enhance overall formulation quality. Chitrank Goel, Deputy Managing Director of Kwality Wall’s (India) Limited, stated that the new centre provides the business with the necessary technical tools to respond to changing consumer preferences while continuing to build a resilient, future-ready ice cream operations network in the region. Email* Submit or create an account to access more > CAVA, the leading Mediterranean fast-casual restaurant brand, has announced the nationwide launch of Glazed Salmon, marking the company’s first foray into seafood. Set to debut on Monday, April 20, the new protein represents a strategic expansion of the brand’s core menu, aligning with traditional Mediterranean dietary patterns that prioritise seafood as a staple ingredient rather than an occasional luxury. The introduction of salmon is a significant move for CAVA as it seeks to diversify its protein offerings and meet growing consumer demand for nutrient-dense, high-quality options. The Glazed Salmon is positioned as a protein-packed choice rich in omega-3 fatty acids and essential vitamins, including B12 and D. Ted Xenohristos, Co-founder and Chief Concept Officer at CAVA, emphasised that the addition of salmon is designed to scale the authentic Mediterranean experience. According to Xenohristos, the brand focused heavily on sourcing and preparation to ensure the product meets the quality standards expected by its customer base while remaining true to the brand’s culinary identity. Ingredient Sourcing and Preparation Logic The Glazed Salmon features a specific preparation method intended to highlight regional flavours. The fillets are marinated in a house-made pomegranate glaze and roasted to achieve a caramelised texture. Key details of the flavour profile and sourcing include: Pomegranate Molasses: A staple of Levantine cooking, providing a tangy-sweet profile. Just Date Partnership: CAVA is sourcing its pomegranate molasses from Just Date, a female-founded company that utilises organic pomegranate juice and organic dates. Flavour Integrity: The glaze is designed to complement CAVA’s existing suite of grains, greens, and dips. New Chef Curations and Seasonal Integration Alongside the launch of the individual protein for build-your-own bowls, CAVA is introducing two new seasonal Chef Curations to demonstrate the versatility of the salmon: Salmon and Strawberry Sesame Bowl: Features salmon and tzatziki over brown rice and spinach, topped with a tart strawberry sesame dressing, roasted red pepper hummus, and sumac slaw. Salmon and Yoghurt Dill Bowl: Pairs the glazed salmon with saffron basmati rice, arugula, traditional hummus, Crazy Feta, and a yoghurt dill dressing. The Glazed Salmon will be available starting April 20 at all CAVA locations nationwide, accessible through in-restaurant dining, online ordering, and the mobile app. To drive digital adoption and customer loyalty, CAVA will host a salmon-themed in-app experience from May 4 to May 11, offering exclusive rewards to users who engage with the new menu item. In addition, Joey Gonzalez, executive chairman of Barry's, has joined the company as a co-founder, bringing fitness-culture expertise to the brand's leadership team. The strategic additions are structured to accelerate PRODA's commercial footprint across retail grocery, club stores, and direct-to-consumer channels nationwide. Proprietary Clear Whey Matrix and Nutritional Profile Built on the premise that refreshment and nutrition can coexist within carbonated soft drinks, PRODA utilises a proprietary clear whey isolate matrix designed to eliminate the heavy, chalky mouthfeel historically associated with traditional sports nutrition shakes. Each 12-ounce can delivers functional nutritional credentials within a zero-sugar formulation: 🥤 Protein Content : 10 grams of complete protein per serving derived from clear whey isolate. 🌿 Clean-Deck Standards : Formulated entirely with all-natural ingredients, zero sugar, and a crisp carbonated profile. The portfolio currently encompasses four fruit-forward carbonated expressions: 🍊 Classic Orange : A traditional citrus profile capturing vibrant orange refreshment. 🍋 Lemon Lime : A crisp, zesty carbonated blend of lemon and lime notes. 🍓 Strawberry Lemonade : A sweet-and-tart fruit pairing combining ripe strawberry and tart lemon. 🍏 Golden Apple : An orchard-inspired fruit profile delivering crisp apple refreshment. Retail Expansion In their new roles, Timberlake and Biel will contribute directly to PRODA's long-term corporate growth, guiding creative strategy, flavour innovation, product development, and cultural partnerships. "The opportunity to work with Matthew and Jeff in shaping the brand, its products and where it goes next is what made this an exciting opportunity for us," stated Biel and Timberlake. "PRODA's nutritional benefits were equally as important. We believe you shouldn't have to choose between what tastes good and what's good for you." With expanded executive backing and fitness-industry expertise from Gonzalez, the brand aims to scale distribution across mainstream retail channels, positioning clear-whey functional soda as an accessible household staple for everyday consumers. • Pluckd Launches at Walmart and Weis Markets to Address Supply Chain Strain | FNBX

Pluck’d launches its U.S.-grown tomato line at Walmart and Weis Markets, utilising Virginia-based greenhouse technology to offer retailers a reliable, year-round domestic alternative to global sourcing. comments debug Exchange Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. The Newsroom Never Miss an Update! Receive personalised weekly email newsletters with industry news curated just for you. Email* Submit or create an account to access more > Pluck’d, a new domestic produce brand, has announced its entry into the retail market with a line of tomatoes grown year-round in Virginia. Now available at select Walmart and Weis Markets locations, as well as regional retailers, the brand arrives at a critical juncture for the produce industry as global supply chains face increasing pressure from rising transportation costs and trade volatility. The launch of Pluck’d represents a strategic move to insulate the domestic produce category from the instabilities of international sourcing. By focusing on U.S.-based cultivation, the brand aims to mitigate the impact of external market forces that have historically shaped the tomato category. According to industry data cited by the brand, approximately 75% of consumers prioritise locally grown produce. Pluck’d is positioning itself to meet this demand while simultaneously providing retailers with a more predictable and consistent inventory. Ben Alexander, CEO of Pluck’d, noted that the company identifies a significant opportunity to rethink how produce reaches the end consumer by prioritising domestic reliability without sacrificing quality. Greenhouse Operations and Distribution Efficiency Pluck’d utilises climate-smart greenhouse technology in Virginia to maintain year-round production. This localised approach allows for a significantly compressed distribution cycle, with products reaching retail shelves in as little as two days from harvest. Key operational advantages include: Reduced Transit Times: Shorter journeys from vine to store decrease fuel consumption and logistics overhead. Extended Shelf Life: Faster delivery reduces the rate of shrinkage and food waste at both the retail and consumer levels. Resource Optimisation: Greenhouse methods allow for precise cultivation that minimises the use of external resources compared to traditional field farming. Product Portfolio and Retail The brand’s initial rollout includes three distinct varieties designed to serve different consumer segments within the produce aisle: Preemos: Mid-size tomatoes-on-the-vine characterised by a balanced flavour profile. Plucculents: Cocktail-sized tomatoes-on-the-vine offering high sweetness levels. Plucklings: Small-format snackable tomatoes on the vine. By securing shelf space at major national and regional retailers, Pluck’d is establishing a footprint that demonstrates the scalability of high-tech domestic agriculture. The brand’s strategy focuses on delivering a consistent year-round supply, a factor that is increasingly vital for retailers seeking to maintain category stability in the face of seasonal global sourcing challenges.
