The modernisation of agricultural supply chains in Southeast Asia is accelerating as machinery manufacturers transition from hardware sales to integrated technology solutions. In a strategic move to address regional farming inefficiencies, Yanmar S.P. Co., Ltd., a prominent agricultural machinery manufacturer in Thailand, has officially launched the Yanmar Solution Experience Centre in the Bang Nam Priao District of Chachoengsao Province.

The facility represents a calculated effort to build a resilient, technology-driven agricultural framework in Thailand. By focusing on knowledge transfer, precision farming techniques, and hands-on demonstrations, the centre aims to help local farmers improve crop yields, lower operational overheads, and adopt sustainable farming practices.

Rice production, which serves as the backbone of Thailand's agricultural economy, will be the primary focus of the facility's crop demonstration programmes.

Smart Food Production

To deliver a comprehensive, end-to-end agricultural solution, Yanmar has established a strategic partnership with two key industry players: crop science leader Chia Tai Company Limited and autonomous technology firm XAG Co., Ltd.

By combining the distinct expertise of each partner, the Solution Experience Centre provides a unified platform that connects biological seed technology with advanced mechanical hardware and digital automation:

  • Seed and Crop Nutrition Solutions: Chia Tai contributes its extensive research in seed breeding and crop protection, ensuring farmers select high-yielding varieties optimised for local soil and weather conditions.

  • Autonomous Aerial Technology: XAG deploys its advanced agricultural drones to demonstrate the commercial viability of precision spraying, crop monitoring, and aerial seeding.

  • Precision Machinery and Engineering: Yanmar provides the heavy machinery and technical expertise required for high-efficiency tillage, planting, and harvesting operations.

According to Masatoshi Suyama, President of Yanmar S.P. Co., Ltd., this integrated ecosystem is designed to address critical structural challenges in the Thai agricultural sector, including an ageing rural workforce, severe labour shortages, and rising fertiliser and chemical inputs.

The Innovation Hub

The co-location of the Yanmar facility within the existing Chia Tai Agricultural Centre in Bang Nam Priao is designed to maximise the logistical and educational reach of both organisations. Rather than operating in isolation, the centre functions as a collaborative knowledge-sharing hub for diverse stakeholders across the agricultural value chain.

The facility’s educational programme is structured around three primary vectors:

  • Practical Field Training: Providing farmers with hands-on experience in operating advanced machinery and programming autonomous drones.

  • Farm Management Advisory Services: Offering data-driven guidance on soil preparation, water utilisation, and disease prevention to help growers optimise their return on investment.

  • Cross Industry Seminars: Hosting structured study visits, technical workshops, and academic seminars for students, government research bodies, and private-sector food producers.

By fostering this open-innovation environment, Yanmar aims to accelerate the adoption rate of modern agronomic practices across both smallholder cooperatives and large-scale commercial farming estates.

Smart Farming

The launch of the Thai training centre represents a key operational step in the execution of the Yanmar Green Challenge 2050, the parent company's long-term global environmental strategy. With multinational food brands and retailers facing intense regulatory and consumer pressure to reduce Scope 3 emissions, decarbonising primary agricultural production has become a business-critical objective.

The centre’s demonstration fields focus heavily on resource-efficient farming methods that directly lower carbon emissions:

  • Targeted Input Reductions: Utilising XAG drones for precision spraying reduces the overall volume of chemical crop protection required, preventing chemical runoff and preserving soil biodiversity.

  • Optimised Fuel Efficiency: Implementing Yanmar's next-generation tractors and harvesters lowers diesel consumption per hectare, directly cutting greenhouse gas emissions during critical field operations.

  • Methane Mitigation in Rice Paddies: The centre showcases advanced field management techniques designed to reduce the high methane output traditionally associated with flooded rice cultivation.

Through these combined efforts, the Yanmar Solution Experience Centre aims to prove that sustainable, low-carbon farming practices can improve farmer livelihoods and secure regional food security without compromising commercial yield or corporate profitability.
