Alternative protein developer Steakholder Foods has partnered with nationwide natural and speciality distributor KeHE Distributors to launch its Perfecta plant-based meat range in the United States. The initial retail rollout will begin in the Northeastern US, with plans to expand into further regions during the second half of 2026.
The distribution agreement represents a major step in the commercialisation of the Nasdaq-listed firm's plant-based whole cuts, transitioning from technology development to commercial market presence in North America.
Under the new agreement, KeHE Distributors will manage the retail distribution of the Perfecta product line. KeHE operates a major distribution network across the US, supplying natural, organic, and speciality products to independent retailers and national grocery chains.
The market entry strategy involves a phased regional approach:
Phase One: Initial product launch across retail stores in the Northeastern United States in July 2026.
Phase Two: A structured expansion across additional US territories throughout the third and fourth quarters of 2026.
By utilising KeHE’s established logistics infrastructure, the company aims to scale retail availability and lower logistical barriers associated with entering a highly competitive consumer market.
Product Formulations
The Perfecta lineup incorporates several product formats designed to replicate the texture, appearance, and cooking performance of traditional meats and seafood:
🥩 Plant-Based Marbled Steak: Formulated to mimic the marbling and tender texture of beef cuts.
🥩 Plant-Based Filet Mignon: A premium whole-cut alternative designed with a fibrous structure.
🍗 Plant-Based Chicken Breast: Designed to deliver the moisture and bite of conventional poultry.
🍔 Plant-Based Burgers and Fish Patties: Ground and portioned alternatives designed for quick preparation and everyday home dining.
The products are manufactured utilising Steakholder Foods’ proprietary 3D-printing machinery and high-quality premix ingredient blends. The technology is designed to create complex, structured whole cuts that offer a direct alternative to industrialised livestock and aquaculture farming.
The launch marks a critical commercial transition for Steakholder Foods, which was founded in 2019. While the company's business model includes the sale of 3D-printing production machinery and raw ingredient premixes to third-party food manufacturers, the launch of the Perfecta brand allows the firm to establish direct consumer touchpoints in the US market.
Arik Kaufman, Chief Executive Officer of Steakholder Foods, stated that addressing consumer barriers related to taste and texture is essential for the growth of the alternative protein sector. Kaufman noted that the partnership with KeHE is intended to establish the Perfecta brand as a major participant in the US plant-based category by improving retail accessibility.
In addition to its current focus on plant-based alternatives, Steakholder Foods continues to explore cellular agriculture and the eventual integration of cultivated cells into hybrid food products as regulatory frameworks evolve.
