Pukka Herbs has announced the expansion of its organic tea portfolio with the launch of two new functional blends: Night Time Apple Chai and Citrus Yerba Mate & Green Tea. The new products are strategically positioned to capture rising interest in targeted wellness solutions, specifically addressing the high-growth categories of sleep support and natural energy.
Addressing the Sleep and Flavour Gap
The Night Time Apple Chai blend is designed to tap into the sleep support market, a top priority for 57% of consumers who report that quality sleep is more important now than it was five years ago.
Beyond functionality, the product is formulated to appeal to younger demographics. With 62% of Gen Z and Millennial tea drinkers actively seeking exotic or novel flavour profiles, the combination of traditional chai spices with apple provides a modern alternative to standard herbal sleep teas.
Natural Energy and Green Tea Growth
The Citrus Yerba Mate & Green Tea blend targets the natural energy sector, utilising ingredients like yerba mate, matcha, and guarana. This launch aligns with current market performance, where green tea sales are reportedly growing at a rate of 17.3%.
By combining green tea with yerba mate—a high-caffeine botanical—Pukka aims to provide a "nourishing" energy boost that caters to consumers moving away from synthetic energy drinks in favour of plant-based caffeine sources.
Jonny Briscoe, General Manager UK & Ireland at Lipton Teas and Infusions, noted that the brand continues to focus on "trend-led flavours" that fit into busy consumer lifestyles.
"These latest launches offer retailers a strong opportunity to tap into growing shopper interest in natural, beneficial and nourishing health and wellness products,"
Briscoe stated, emphasising the brand's commitment to organic certification and functional benefits like digestion, calm, and sleep.
Sustainability and Distribution
In line with Pukka’s environmental standards, the new range features sustainable packaging:
Tea Bags: 20 individually wrapped, home-compostable bags per pack.
Outer Packaging: Recyclable FSC-certified materials printed with vegetable-based inks.
The new blends are rolling out through major digital and physical retailers, including Amazon, Ocado, and Holland & Barrett. Night Time Apple Chai has also secured placement in Tesco, with both varieties expected to launch in Waitrose shortly.
