PepsiCo has officially introduced Pepsi Prebiotic Cola to the Chinese consumer market. This launch marks a significant category expansion for the core Pepsi brand, entering the growing functional carbonated soft drink sector with a product designed to combine the brand's classic flavour profile with health-adjacent ingredients.
The product rollout targets consumers seeking functional dietary additions within familiar beverage categories. The functional soft drink has officially commenced its distribution phase, securing availability through prominent regional FMCG trade partners.

Formulation and Ingredients
To appeal to health-conscious consumer demographics, Pepsi Prebiotic Cola incorporates a functional ingredient blend that moves away from traditional high-calorie soft drink formulations. The recipe has been engineered to preserve the signature taste of the brand while delivering specific nutritional benefits:
Prebiotic Fibre: Each serving contains 3 grams of soluble prebiotic fibre, formulated to assist with daily dietary fibre intake and support digestive health.
Low Sucrose Content: The formulation contains 5 grams of sucrose, reducing the overall caloric impact compared to standard carbonated soft drinks.
No Artificial Sweeteners: The beverage is produced without the inclusion of synthetic sugar substitutes or artificial sweeteners, relying on its low-sucrose base to maintain sweetness.
Product Development and Local Adaptation
Although the prebiotic beverage platform was initially established by PepsiCo in the United States, the Chinese product rollout involved a dedicated adaptation process to align with regional consumer preferences.
Tracy Wang, R&D Senior Director, Beverages, APAC at PepsiCo, explained that the transition to the Chinese market required more than replicating the existing Western formulation. Instead, the regional R&D and product development teams worked to translate the global innovation into a proposition tailored to local taste profiles and functional expectations.
According to Wang, the development process required close collaboration between regional, global, and international beverage divisions. The resulting formulation successfully balanced a distinct prebiotic profile, a naturally sweetened low-sugar base, and the classic refreshment profile associated with the core Pepsi brand to meet the growing consumer demand for dual-benefit beverages.
Packaging Formats and Distribution
To meet different retail environments and consumer purchasing requirements, Pepsi Prebiotic Cola is being manufactured in two standard packaging configurations:
🥫 330ml regular cans: Structured for individual grab-and-go convenience and standard retail vending layouts.
🍼 500ml medium plastic bottles: Developed for standard grocery shelving and multi-serve home consumption.
Commercial supply lines have been established through international trade intermediaries to facilitate broad availability across Asian retail networks. Hanoi-based FMCG distributor and wholesaler M-Pacific Import Export Joint Stock Company (M-Pacific Import Export JSC) has confirmed that the new product line has been integrated into its distribution portfolio, allowing commercial buyers, regional retailers, and bulk importers to source the product directly.
