Instant noodle brand Maruchan has announced a promotional partnership with anime franchise Demon Slayer to launch MaruMart, an immersive experiential activation. Scheduled to run during Comic-Con at Petco Park, the pop-up represents a collaborative brand marketing strategy aimed at connecting consumer packaged goods with pop culture fandoms.
The event will combine product sampling with interactive brand installations to build consumer engagement through shared brand equity.
Experiential Marketing and Convenience Store Design
The activation is modelled on the traditional Japanese convenience store, or "konbini", and blends classic Japanese design elements with the visual aesthetic of the Demon Slayer series. By creating a fully themed physical environment, the partnership seeks to drive organic consumer engagement and brand visibility during a high-footfall public event.
The layout features several interactive touchpoints, including:
Custom Merchandise: Stations offering limited-edition collaborative hoodies, t-shirts, and keychains.
Interactive Elements: Gaming installations such as claw machines.
Character Displays: Physical exhibits showcasing key figures from the series, including Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and the nine Hashira.
Photo Opportunities: Dedicated photographic backdrops situated throughout the retail-style space to encourage social media sharing.
Product Sampling and Collaborative Packaging
To promote its product line, Maruchan will offer complimentary samples of its Yakisoba range during the event. The samples will be served in limited-edition, co-branded packaging developed exclusively for the activation.
The featured sampling menu includes the following character-inspired varieties:
🥩 Tanjiro's Beef Yakisoba: A beef-flavoured noodle option.
🐔 Zenitsu's Chicken Yakisoba: A chicken-flavoured noodle variety.
🌶️ Inosuke's Spicy Chicken Yakisoba: A seasoned spicy chicken noodle variant.
Katelyn Stokes, Marketing Director at Maruchan, stated that the partnership allows the brand to connect with a highly passionate consumer base. Stokes noted that the activation was designed to offer attendees an interactive space to celebrate the intersection of anime, instant noodles, and Japanese culture.
Event Logistics and Public Access
The pop-up will be situated in the Interactive Zone within the Lexus Premier Lot at Petco Park. The activation is scheduled to operate from 10:00 to 17:00 on 23 to 25 July, and from 10:00 to 16:00 on 26 July.
In line with accessibility strategies for large-scale experiential events, admission to the Interactive Zone is free of charge, and attendees do not require a formal event badge to enter the space.
