Kite Hill has announced the launch of its Protein Cream Cheese Alternative, a strategic addition to its portfolio that addresses the traditional lack of protein in the plant-based cream cheese category. The product, which has debuted at Whole Foods Market locations nationwide, provides 4g of protein per two-tablespoon serving, double the protein density found in traditional dairy cream cheese.
The launch represents a shift in the dairy-free sector toward functional nutrition, moving beyond simple replication of taste and texture to deliver a competitive macronutrient profile.

Nutritional Performance and Ingredient Profile
The new offering is formulated to outperform several traditional dairy benchmarks. According to the company, the product provides more protein per serving than typical dairy cottage cheese, while containing 0g of sugar and 0g of saturated fat.
To achieve a profile that appeals to "dairy lovers," Kite Hill utilises a base of almond milk and soy. The manufacturing process mirrors traditional dairy production through fermentation and culturing, which the brand states is essential for replicating the smooth, spreadable texture and acidic "tang" associated with conventional cream cheese.
Category Disruption via Protein Density
The plant-based dairy industry has long faced criticism regarding nutritional parity with animal-based products. Connie Sintuvat, VP of Marketing at Kite Hill, noted that while consumers traditionally turn to dairy for protein, this specific benefit has been largely absent from dairy-free cream cheese options.
By focusing on protein density, Kite Hill is positioning the product as a functional food rather than just a dietary alternative. This strategy aligns with broader consumer trends where shoppers prioritise "plus" benefits—such as added protein or probiotics—over basic calorie replacement.
Retail Distribution and Portfolio Expansion
The rollout follows a multi-phase distribution strategy:
Primary Launch: Now available at Whole Foods Market stores nationwide.
Secondary Expansion: Rolling out to major retailers, including Kroger, Sprouts, and Publix.
Portfolio Integration: The launch strengthens Kite Hill’s existing high-protein lineup, which includes its Greek Unsweetened Yogurt.
In tandem with the cream cheese launch, Kite Hill is also expanding its Greek Style Yoghurt line with new Vanilla Cinnamon and Raspberry flavours, each delivering 11g of protein per single-serve cup.
The entry into high-protein cream cheese indicates a maturation of the plant-based category. As the segment becomes more crowded, brands are increasingly forced to differentiate through specialised nutritional claims.
Kite Hill's reliance on traditional culturing methods combined with modern ingredient selection suggests a move toward "hybrid" innovation—combining heritage dairy techniques with plant-based inputs to solve long-standing nutritional challenges in the sector.
