Hudsonville Ice Cream has introduced a refreshed lineup for its Super Premium Pint Collection, formulating the range with 13% to 15% milkfat to target consumer demand for clean labelling and traditional dairy standards.
The family-owned producer, established in 1926, sources milk and cream from local farms to produce the six-flavour portfolio, exceeding minimum regulatory benchmarks for commercial ice cream products.
Regulatory Standards and Label Transparency
The launch coincides with heightened consumer scrutiny across food packaging. According to data from the International Food Information Council’s June 2026 Spotlight Survey, 47% of American shoppers report that they always or often review nutrition facts and ingredient declarations while purchasing groceries.
In the retail freezer sector, ingredient composition dictates strict classification boundaries. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires that products sold under the legal definition of ice cream must contain a minimum of 10% milkfat and weigh at least 4.5 pounds per gallon. Formulations that do not meet these composition thresholds are classified and labelled as frozen dairy desserts.
Hudsonville’s refreshed pint line positions its formulation above baseline regulatory criteria, using butterfat levels between 13% and 15% to achieve a denser profile without relying on shortcuts or non-dairy bulking agents.
"Real premium ice cream isn't a new idea for us," stated Taylor Janisse, Product Developer at Hudsonville Ice Cream. "For 100 years, we've focused on using real, locally sourced milk and cream, quality ingredients and no shortcuts. What's changing is that consumers are asking more questions about what goes into their food. We've been answering that question with the ice cream we make every day, and we are continuing to explore ways to evolve our classic recipes to meet the needs of what people want when they are choosing ice cream."
