G&Tea has announced the commercial launch of its spirit-based sparkling hard tea, introducing an alternative to conventional malt-based ready-to-drink (RTD) teas.

Founded by entrepreneur Alex Young, the brand combines London Dry gin, naturally caffeine-free South African rooibos tea, and clover honey into a 7 per cent alcohol by volume (ABV) single-serve canned cocktail.

The launch enters the expanding flavoured alcoholic beverage and premium RTD categories, targeting adult consumers seeking spirit-based formulations made with recognisable agricultural ingredients rather than artificial flavourings or refined sugar.

Botanical Formulation and Rooibos Provenance

The product development strategy centres on pairing gin botanicals with the smooth, low-tannin characteristics of single-origin rooibos.

The inspiration for the beverage stems from Young's childhood near South Africa's Cederberg , mountains, the exclusive global growing region for rooibos. Unlike traditional black or green tea bases that can impart bitter tannins, rooibos provides a naturally earthy and rounded foundation that requires no artificial sweetening agents or synthetic flavour enhancers.

Key technical specifications and formulation parameters across the range include:

Spirit Base: Formulated with citrus-forward London Dry gin to supply structured botanical and juniper notes.

Botanical Infusion: Brewed using South African rooibos, delivering an unfermented, naturally caffeine-free tea matrix.

Natural Sweetener: Sweetened exclusively with clover honey, eliminating refined white sugar and artificial sweeteners.

Alcohol Profile: Formulated at 7 per cent ABV in a lightly sparkling format.

Alex Young, Founder of G&Tea, stated that consumer scrutiny over ingredient transparency continues to rise, noting that the formulation was developed to ensure every component contributes directly to the liquid's sensory profile without relying on artificial additives.

Product Portfolio and Flavour Lineup

The G&Tea platform enters commercial distribution across two distinct flavour variations:

🌿 Original: Blends citrus-led London Dry gin with smooth South African rooibos and clover honey to produce a crisp, lightly effervescent finish.

🌺 Passion Fruit: Built upon the Original gin and rooibos foundation, infused with bright tropical passion fruit flavouring.

Both variants are packaged in standard 12-ounce (355ml) aluminium cans.

Trade Distribution and Commercial Scaling

Following its initial commercial debut in the Chicago metropolitan market, G&Tea is actively building wholesale and retail distribution partnerships.

The enterprise is establishing commercial supply agreements with off-premise retailers, liquor stockists, independent grocers, and on-premise hospitality operators across Illinois to expand physical availability.

The product introduction offers distributors and hospitality venues a spirit-based hard tea option positioned to capture afternoon refreshment, dining, and social gathering occasions.
