Baby and toddler food brand Gerber has expanded beyond mealtime products with the commercial launch of Gerberlyte™, a USDA Organic-certified paediatric Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS).

Entering nationwide retail distribution this month in the baby aisle, the line is formulated to address mild-to-moderate dehydration in children resulting from illness, heat, or physical activity. The introduction marks the brand's first dedicated entry into the paediatric hydration category, combining an organic coconut water base with targeted electrolytes and zinc.

The launch arrives alongside a wider portfolio transformation programme at Gerber, which will see reformulated recipes, reduced added sugar, and updated packaging deployed across more than half of the company's food and snack lines through early 2027.

Formulation and Functional Electrolyte

Gerberlyte is engineered to deliver faster fluid replenishment than standard consumer drinks such as juices or sports beverages.

The formulation features an electrolyte balance designed specifically for children's rehydration requirements, paired with a taste profile developed for kid acceptance:

Organic Coconut Water Base: Utilises organic coconut water combined with natural sweeteners to support palatability.

Zinc Fortification: Delivers 25 per cent of the daily recommended value of zinc per serving.

Clean-Label Standards: Formulated without artificial sweeteners or synthetic dyes, utilising colours sourced exclusively from natural ingredients.

Clinical Recommendation Baseline: Sits under the Gerber brand platform, which ranks as the leading paediatrician-recommended baby and toddler food brand based on a 2026 survey of US paediatricians.

Oscar Benítez, President of Gerber, stated that parents require trusted solutions during illness recovery or following outdoor activity, noting that the introduction of Gerberlyte extends the company's nearly 100-year nutrition heritage into functional hydration support.

Flavour Lineup and Packaging

The Gerberlyte product platform enters commercial distribution across three fruit-forward flavour profiles:

🍓🥝 Strawberry Kiwi: A sweet and tangy fruit pairing formulated for young palates.

🫐 Berry Blend: A mixed-berry flavour profile designed for everyday hydration acceptance.

🍹 Tropical Punch: A multi-fruit combination balancing sweetness without artificial flavourings.

To accommodate different usage occasions, Gerberlyte is available in two distinct packaging formats:

32 fl. oz Multiserve Bottles: Designed for home use and continued recovery regimens, carrying a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of US$5.49.

4-Packs of 4 fl. oz Bottles: Sized for portability, convenience, and single-serve portioning, retailing at an MSRP of US$4.49 per pack.

Both formats are rolling out across the baby aisle in retail stores nationwide, with final shelf pricing subject to retailer discretion.

Portfolio Transformation

The introduction of Gerberlyte coincides with an extensive portfolio overhaul encompassing more than half of Gerber's established product lines.

The enterprise-wide initiative covers purees, infant cereals, toddler meals, and branded snack ranges, including Lil' Crunchies®, Yogurt Melts®, and Puffs. The reformulation strategy centres on simpler ingredient decks, reductions in added sugar, and the exclusion of artificial preservatives.

Alongside recipe updates, Gerber is deploying redesigned packaging engineered to prominently communicate nutritional benefits, core ingredients, and certified quality seals. The updated packaging and reformulated SKUs will transition onto retail shelves progressively through early 2027.
