Cathedral City has expanded its retail portfolio with the commercial launch of two new cheese product formats, introducing spreadable cheddar tubs and peelable mozzarella snack sticks across UK grocery channels.

The multi-format product rollout comprises Cathedral City Mature Spreadable, Cathedral City Lighter Spreadable, and Cathedral City Cheese Peelers. The range extensions target high-frequency daytime eating occasions, broadening the brand's presence across bread spreads, culinary meal additions, and children's lunchbox snacks.

The launch follows a series of recent category extensions for the brand, including ready meals and chilled pizza, reinforcing Cathedral City's footprint beyond conventional block and grated cheddar formats.

Spreadable Formulations and Nutritional Profile

The new spreadable collection translates the flavour profile of the brand's mature cheddar into smooth, spoonable and spreadable formats designed for toast, crackers, and cooking applications.

Both spreadable variants are packaged in 125g recyclable tubs and are formulated to provide high fibre and protein delivery:

🧀 Cathedral City Mature Spreadable Cheese: Made with 54% Cathedral City mature cheddar, delivering a rich, full-bodied savoury profile in a smooth and creamy matrix suitable for spreading, dipping, or stirring into warm dishes.

🧀 Cathedral City Lighter Spreadable Cheese: Formulated with reduced-fat mature cheddar, containing 30% less fat than the standard spreadable variant while providing 15.6g of protein and 663mg of calcium per 100g.

The spreadable range enters the category at a recommended retail price (RRP) of £1.75 per 125g tub. By offering a designated lighter option alongside the core mature variant, the lineup addresses consumer interest in portion-controlled, lower-fat dairy products without sacrificing cheddar taste intensity.

Cheese Peelers and Snacking Format Architecture

Complementing the spreadable line, Cathedral City has entered the children's and ambient-adjacent chilled snacking segment with the launch of Cheese Peelers.

Engineered with a stretchy, fibrous curd structure that allows the cheese to be peeled into individual strands, the product is produced from 100% natural mozzarella:

🧀 Cathedral City Cheese Peelers: Mild and creamy peelable mozzarella sticks formulated as a natural source of protein and calcium, containing the equivalent of one glass (180ml) of milk per stick.

To differentiate within the competitive peelable cheese fixture, Cathedral City has calibrated each peeler portion to 27g, representing a larger single-serve portion size compared to the 20g category average.

The snacking line is merchandised in two retail configurations: a three-pack (81g) carrying an RRP of £1.75 to £1.85, and a family-sized six-pack (162g) retailing at approximately £2.95 to £3.30.

Retail Distribution

The introduction of spreadable and peelable SKUs enables Cathedral City to target everyday snacking and lunchtime meal preparation, competing directly in sub-categories traditionally led by specialist processed cheese and kid-focused dairy brands.

Commercial distribution for Cathedral City Spreadable and Cheese Peelers has commenced across major UK supermarket multiples, including Sainsbury's, Morrisons, and Iceland, alongside online grocery delivery via Ocado.
