British plant-based digestive wellness brand Biomel has expanded its functional snacking portfolio with the addition of two new flavours to its Prebiotic Gut Health Bar lineup: Peanut Butter, and Apple & Cinnamon.
The product introductions enter the market engineered to help consumers address the UK's widespread dietary fibre shortfall, where nutritional surveillance indicates that approximately 96% of adults do not meet the recommended daily intake of 30 grammes. The line extensions join the brand's established core bar portfolio, which includes Belgian Chocolate, Chocolate Hazelnut, Red Berry, and Chocolate Orange.
The launch targets the expanding functional snacking category, where shoppers are moving beyond conventional confectionery and single-nutrient protein bars toward convenient, whole-food options that support digestive wellness and the gut microbiome.
"Looking after your gut shouldn't have to mean pills, complicated routines or forcing down something simply because it's 'good for you'," said Stevan Hegarty, Co-Founder of Biomel. "Our Prebiotic Gut Health Bars were created to make supporting your gut health simple and easy to fit into everyday life, without having to compromise on great taste."
Formulation Architecture and Nutritional Density
Each snack bar is formulated around an active prebiotic matrix delivering 13 grammes of dietary fibre, accounting for more than 40% of the recommended daily adult requirement, sourced from a combination of seven whole-grain fibres.
The liquid and solid builds are fortified with four essential vitamins and minerals calibrated to support immune defence and normal digestive system function:
🥜 Peanut Butter: Combines a rich, roasted peanut butter paste with a delicate touch of sea salt, balancing creaminess with savoury depth.
🍏 Apple & Cinnamon: Blends diced dried apple pieces with warm ground cinnamon, delivering a spiced bakery profile reminiscent of traditional fruit crumbles.
According to comparative nutritional benchmarking conducted by Biomel across more than 100 snack bars currently retailing in the UK market, the Prebiotic Gut Health Bars contain 45% less sugar than category competitors.
In addition, the entire range is certified vegan and dairy-free, manufactured without gluten, and free from synthetic additives, artificial sweeteners, and chemical emulsifiers.
Fibre in Ambient Snacking
The expansion of Biomel’s bar portfolio reflects accelerating consumer and retail interest in "food as medicine" solutions across ambient grab-and-go fixtures.
While sports nutrition and weight-management bars have historically emphasised high protein gram counts, market trends point toward digestive health, microbiome diversity, and satiety-inducing prebiotic fibres as emerging drivers of value growth in impulse snacking. Formulating shelf-stable snack bars with multi-source wholegrain fibres allows brand owners to capture breakfast, desk-snacking, and on-the-go nourishment dayparts among consumers seeking to improve everyday metabolic health without pharmaceutical supplements.
The new Peanut Butter and Apple & Cinnamon Prebiotic Gut Health Bars are available alongside Biomel's broader functional portfolio, which encompasses ready-to-drink fermented gut health shots, Complete Gut powders, and functional gummies.
