Ajinomoto Foods North America has secured nationwide retail distribution at select Whole Foods Market locations for its new line of premium, single-serve frozen ramen meals.


The product rollout, commencing on 10 June 2026, marks the brand's debut in the natural grocery channel. The new range is engineered to capture the rising demand for convenient, high-quality ethnic meal solutions, offering retail partners a premium alternative within the competitive frozen convenience aisle.


The decision to launch the frozen ramen range at Whole Foods Market highlights a broader shift in the frozen ready-meal sector, where consumers are increasingly looking for authentic international flavours in convenient, single-serve formats.


To meet the strict ingredient quality standards demanded by the natural retail channel, Ajinomoto formulated the product range with a clean-label focus. The entire line is manufactured using ingredients containing no artificial colours, artificial flavours, or chemical preservatives.


According to Amy Shoemaker, VP of CPG Category Marketing at Ajinomoto Foods North America, the product line-up was developed in response to a pronounced rise in consumer interest in Japanese street food and restaurant-quality ramen.

By scaling traditional preparation methods into a microwave-ready format, the manufacturer aims to help grocery partners drive higher average transaction values within the chilled and frozen convenience categories.



Technical Specifications and Product Formulations

Replicating the delicate texture of fresh ramen noodles within a frozen, microwaveable format presents significant technical and processing challenges. To address this, Ajinomoto utilised a proprietary manufacturing approach designed to protect the starch structure of the noodles, ensuring they retain their characteristic springy texture after heating.


Operating under the company's "Big Kitchen" processing philosophy, the facility replicates traditional culinary techniques at scale, utilising slow-simmered, umami-rich broths as the base for each variant. The individual meals are packaged in recyclable materials, assisting retail partners in meeting local sustainability benchmarks.



The range comprises three distinct flavour profiles, each featuring traditional-style toppings and an individual nori seaweed sachet:


🐷 Tonkotsu Pork – A silky, creamy pork-based broth served with fine-cut noodles and topped with seasoned pork, cabbage, green onions, and garlic.

🐔 Shoyu Chicken – A balanced, soy-sauce-based broth infused with roasted chicken flavours and thin-cut noodles, finished with white meat chicken, spinach, and green onions.

🥬 Miso Vegetable – A meat-free, robust red miso broth paired with thick-cut noodles, topped with tender shiitake mushrooms, roasted corn, and green onions.

The introduction of the premium ramen range leverages Ajinomoto's century-long global expertise in amino acid research, flavour formulation, and the science of umami.


As a leading Asian frozen noodle brand in the United States, Ajinomoto Foods North America operates as a subsidiary of the Tokyo-headquartered Ajinomoto Co., Inc. The parent multinational combines culinary craftsmanship with science-backed insights to manufacture convenient foods across industrial, retail, and foodservice channels globally.


Retailing at a suggested price of $7.99 per bowl, the new frozen ramen range provides a high-margin, shelf-ready option designed to stimulate impulse purchases and attract younger, style-conscious consumers ahead of the peak autumn and winter trading windows.
