Leading UK chilled food manufacturer The Compleat Food Group has officially completed the acquisition of Greencore’s sauces and soups business in Bristol, following successful approval from the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).

The strategic deal serves to consolidate the group's manufacturing capabilities as it pursues its ambition to become the UK’s number one chilled prepared food company.

Operational Continuity and Scale

The acquisition involves a significant manufacturing asset: a 50,438 sq ft production facility located in Bristol. The site currently produces a range of own-label chilled sauces and soups for major UK retailers.

Crucially, The Compleat Food Group has confirmed that all 300 employees currently working at the facility will transfer to the new ownership and be retained. Operations at the site are expected to continue without interruption.

Strategic Context and Portfolio Expansion

This move significantly extends the group’s footprint in the high-growth categories of chilled sauces and soups. It builds upon the 2024 acquisition of Zorba Foods (a manufacturer of dips, deli-fillers, and soups), creating a robust operational cluster in this segment.

The deal is the latest in a series of aggressive expansion moves over the past year, following the purchases of:

  • Freshpak: A leading egg processor.

  • The Real Yorkshire Pudding Co: The UK’s top supplier of chilled Yorkshire puddings.

Financial Impact

With the integration of the Bristol unit, The Compleat Food Group’s total annual turnover has now reached £1.4 billion. The group's total workforce has expanded to over 6,300 people operating across 18 manufacturing sites.

The group is already a major supplier of own-label pastry, sweet bakery, continental meats, and plant-based foods, alongside its branded portfolio which includes Wall’s Pastry, Pork Farms, Squeaky Bean, and Vadasz.

Nick Field, CEO at The Compleat Food Group, commented on the completion of the deal:

“We’re excited to welcome the Bristol team to The Compleat Food Group. This acquisition marks an important step in expanding our expertise in chilled sauces and soups, two categories with strong growth potential. By combining this capability with our existing portfolio, we can deliver even greater value for our retail partners and continue to innovate in creating Food to Feel Good.”
