UK supermarket major Tesco has commenced a trial of its new proprietary "Finest Coffee To-Go" self-service machines across select Tesco Express stores.
The pilot introduces café-style hot beverages to convenience store shoppers, utilising the retailer's established premium private-label coffee blend. As part of the rollout, small-sized hot drinks from the new machines are integrated into the Tesco Meal Deal platform, providing consumers with an expanded hot beverage choice within the retailer's food-to-go architecture.

Finest Coffee to Go Machine Rollout
The pilot is initially operating across two Tesco Express locations, serving as an operational evaluation phase for the retailer's proprietary hot beverage hardware.
The machines deploy the same Rainforest Alliance certified, UK-roasted medium-roast Tesco Finest coffee beans served across Tesco's in-store Cafés and Coffee Shops. The bean matrix is formulated to deliver a balanced profile with chocolate and roasted nut notes.
Key operational details and product specifications include:
☕ Core Beverage Offerings: Americano, Flat White, Latte, Cappuccino, Espresso, Mocha, Hot Chocolate, and Breakfast Tea.
🍯 Customisation Expansion: Planned addition of syrup shots for selected hot beverage builds in upcoming trial phases.
🍱 Meal Deal Integration: Small-tier hot beverages included as eligible drink options within the Tesco Meal Deal framework.
On the Go Coffee
The introduction of the Finest Coffee To-Go concept complements Tesco's long-standing partnership with Costa Express, which currently operates across more than 2,800 Tesco locations nationwide.
The trial reflects ongoing multi-format retail strategies across the UK grocery sector, where supermarket operators are upgrading on-the-go food and drink infrastructure to increase morning and lunchtime store footfall. By leveraging its established private-label brand equity in the coffee-to-go aisle, Tesco joins competitors such as Co-op, with its Ever Ground self-service offer, M&S, and Waitrose in expanding proprietary hot drink formats across convenience store networks.
