Solero is diversifying its product portfolio with the introduction of Bon Bons, a bite-sized sharing format, alongside several new additions to its core ice cream range. The launch marks a strategic shift for the brand as it seeks to capture a larger share of the adult refreshment and snacking markets through significant format innovation.

The new product line includes the Bon Bons sharing tubs, a Strawberry Twist variant for the core range, and a smaller "Minis" format. These additions are designed to provide more versatile consumption moments beyond the traditional single-serve stick format.

The primary addition to the portfolio, Solero Bon Bons, features vanilla ice cream with fruit sauce coated in a fruit-flavoured shell. By moving into a bite-sized format, the brand is targeting the "permissible indulgence" trend, where consumers seek portion-controlled treats that are suitable for sharing.

The Bon Bons are available in two flavour profiles: Exotic, which includes peach, passion fruit, mango, and pineapple, and Strawberry. Each serving of two Bon Bons contains 96 calories. To align with clean-label trends, the products are manufactured using natural flavours and contain no artificial colours.

Alongside the sharing format, the brand is strengthening its traditional range with the Strawberry Twist. This product combines vanilla ice cream with strawberry sorbet and a swirl, utilizing 25% real fruit content. This focus on fruit density is a key differentiator in the premium refreshment category.

Furthermore, the brand is launching Solero Minis, a mixed-pack format featuring Exotic and Berry Bliss flavours. This smaller format is specifically aimed at expanding snacking occasions, catering to consumers who prefer lighter, smaller-scale treats.

The introduction of these new formats reflects a broader industry trend where established ice cream brands are deconstructing traditional products to fit new consumption habits. By offering tubs of 12 Bon Bons, Solero is positioning itself to compete in the at-home sharing market, a segment that has seen resilient growth.

Olga Mert, Brand Manager at Walls Refreshment UK, noted that the new format is a direct response to consumer lifestyle changes.

"We wanted to offer Solero’s iconic taste in a light, uplifting treat that fits into more moments for shoppers to enjoy, and this new bite‑sized format is our answer," Mert said. "It will build on the popularity of Solero, which is the leading adult refreshment brand, to offer something completely new and innovative. It’s a delicious treat for yourself or sharing with others, in one perfect bite."

Retail availability and distribution

Both the Bon Bons and the new core range additions are scheduled for a nationwide rollout starting in March. The products will be available across major UK grocers and wholesalers, ensuring broad market penetration.

As the brand moves into these new sub-categories, the focus remains on maintaining the "refreshment" identity while providing retailers with high-margin, innovative formats that drive incremental growth in the frozen treats aisle.
