Pattison Food Group has opened an automated grocery fulfillment facility in Langley, British Columbia, in partnership with Dematic. The 485,000-square-foot ambient centre is designed to enhance split-case fulfillment efficiency and support scalable distribution across the group's nine retail grocery banners in Western Canada, including Save-On-Foods, PriceSmart Foods and Quality Foods.
Advanced Automation Technologies
The facility incorporates a suite of software and hardware solutions aimed at reducing manual handling, improving order accuracy and increasing fulfillment agility. The infrastructure includes:
Improved warehouse orchestration through Dematic software solutions
Nearly 62,000 automated storage locations via a nine-aisle Dematic Multishuttle system
Dematic RapidPick technology to facilitate efficient fulfillment
Support for approximately 11,000 grocery SKUs across 16 goods-to-person workstations
Integrated systems for decant, conveyor, sortation, tote handling, buffering and sequencing
Operational support through resident maintenance and lifecycle services
The implementation also contributes to the group’s sustainability initiatives by supporting reusable tote-based fulfillment processes.
Scalable Grocery Operations
The project reflects a shift towards intelligent fulfillment environments capable of responding to evolving consumer demands. Mike Olson, senior vice president of supply chain and wholesale at Pattison Food Group, stated that the expertise provided by Dematic has enabled the build of a scalable operation. He noted that the facility improves performance while providing the flexibility required for future growth.
