Novonesis has announced plans to invest €600 million to expand its existing operations in Patalganga, India, constructing an advanced enzyme manufacturing plant.
Scheduled to become fully operational in 2030, the facility is designed to scale production capacity to meet expanding global demand for industrial biological solutions while reinforcing the company's international supply infrastructure.
The Patalganga plant will manufacture enzymes formulated for food and beverage processing, alongside applications in biofuels and household care sectors.
Global Biosolutions Capacity
The capital deployment establishes localised manufacturing infrastructure to serve expanding customer demand across the Middle East, India, and Africa.
Novonesis projects commercial demand for industrial biosolutions across these emerging regions will outpace growth rates in developed markets over the coming decade. Developing localised production scale allows the company to reduce delivery lead times and enhance supply security for regional commercial processors.
Anders Lund, Chief Operating Officer at Novonesis, stated that scaling global production capacity remains an operational priority as industrial demand for biosolutions accelerates across diverse categories and geographical territories. Lund noted that the Patalganga expansion reinforces the company's operating scale, supply flexibility, and resilience, positioning processing capacity closer to key growth markets to support long-term targets.
Sustainable Plant Infrastructure
The engineering architecture of the Patalganga development integrates circular resource recovery systems to limit environmental impact and support decarbonisation goals.
Key technical and operational sustainability features incorporated into the site include:
💧 Closed-Loop Water Recovery: Integrated freshwater recycling systems engineered to reduce raw water withdrawal and process water consumption.
⚡ Thermal Energy Recovery: Industrial heat pump technology installed to capture and redeploy thermal energy, lowering operational energy demand.
📉 Emissions Reduction Trajectory: Process efficiency measures designed to align the manufacturing facility with verified reductions in Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions.
Global Manufacturing Network
The Indian project represents the latest capital allocation in a multi-year investment programme executed by Novonesis to scale its international manufacturing setup.

Rayong, Thailand: Regional manufacturing expansion serving Southeast Asian markets.
Franklinton, North Carolina (US): Enzyme fermentation and processing line expansions.
Taicang, China: Industrial biosolutions facility scaling.
Araucária, Brazil: Regional production enhancement for Latin American processing networks.
West Allis, Wisconsin (US): Manufacturing and fermentation infrastructure upgrades.
Formed in 2024 through the merger of Danish biotechnology specialists Novozymes and Chr. Hansen, Novonesis operates with a global workforce of approximately 11,000 personnel. The enterprise specialises in microbial science, precision fermentation, and enzyme innovation to support manufacturing across food, beverage, human health, and bioindustrial markets worldwide.
