Japanese condiment manufacturer Kewpie Corporation has announced an experiential brand activation in London, introducing a pop-up in Covent Garden Piazza on 19 and 20 September 2026.
The two-day event marks the official launch of the company's "KEWPIE IT." campaign in the UK, aimed at expanding consumer awareness and culinary application of Kewpie Mayonnaise across European retail and foodservice sectors.
The campaign highlights the transformative impact of Kewpie Mayonnaise on everyday dishes, focusing specifically on the Tamago Sando, the traditional Japanese egg sandwich.
Experiential Retail and Konbini Pop Up Activation
The "KEWPIE IT. London Brand Experience" will feature a "KONBINI KEWPIE" installation inspired by traditional Japanese convenience stores. The temporary retail space is designed to drive direct consumer engagement through product sampling, merchandise, and branded content.
Key features of the pop-up activation include:
🥪 Tamago Sando Sampling: Freshly prepared Japanese egg sandwiches demonstrating the texture and flavour profile of Kewpie Mayonnaise.
🏪 KONBINI KEWPIE Store Design: A retail pop-up environment modelled on Japanese convenience store aesthetics.
📖 Limited-Edition "Mayozine": Distribution of a proprietary brand magazine featuring recipes, culinary history, and product applications.
🎁 Promotional Giveaways: Merchandise drops and product sampling packs for event attendees.
The event will run on 19 September from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM and on 20 September from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM at Covent Garden Piazza.

Formulation Science
First produced in 1925, Kewpie Mayonnaise differs from conventional Western mayonnaise formulations through its raw material selection and acid profile.
The technical parameters of the formulation include:
🥚 Egg Yolk Base: Formulated using egg yolks rather than whole eggs to deliver a rich, creamy texture and distinct umami mouthfeel.
🍶 Proprietary Vinegar Blend: Combined with Kewpie's exclusive vinegar formulation to enhance flavour depth and balance.
🥪 Tamago Sando Application: Showcasing the traditional Japanese egg sandwich as a primary vehicle to demonstrate product versatility in everyday cooking.
The brand strategy focuses on positioning the condiment as a versatile flavour enhancer for standard household dishes, including burgers, salads, sandwiches, and roasted vegetables.
Satoshi Wakatsuki, General Manager of the International Marketing Planning Department at Kewpie Corporation, stated that the Tamago Sando illustrates how a single quality ingredient can elevate a simple meal, adding that the campaign aims to share the joy of carefully selected ingredients and introduce the rich, umami flavour of Kewpie Mayonnaise to new audiences.
The Covent Garden event serves as the initial phase of a multi-channel UK marketing push. Following the pop-up, Kewpie Corporation will execute targeted chef partnerships, content creator collaborations, and digital media campaigns to drive retail velocity and expand distribution across UK grocery and QSR channels.
