Sustainable packaging manufacturer and co-packer JBM Packaging has officially opened a new 52,500-square-foot facility in Lebanon, Ohio, significantly expanding its contract packaging, kitting, and filling operations.

Located approximately one mile from the company's primary headquarters, the purpose-built site consolidates operations previously housed in rented premises in Queensgate, Cincinnati, where JBM first initiated its contract packaging business in 2021.

The commissioning of the site increases JBM's overall machine capacity by 50 per cent, enabling the business to handle a wider scope of customer requirements spanning packaging design, manufacturing, commercial filling, and logistics fulfilment.

Facility Specifications and Machine Capacity Expansion

The new building has been designed to optimise material flow and accommodate high-density storage requirements for expanding fast-moving consumer goods and agricultural packaging contracts.

Key structural and technical specifications of the facility include:

⚙️ Increased Ceiling Clearances: Engineered with 28-foot clear-height ceilings and high-density warehouse racking to accelerate inventory movement.

📈 50% Machine Capacity Uplift: Expands commercial filling and secondary packaging bandwidth to manage higher project volumes.

👥 Workforce Additions: Structured to generate up to 50 new operational and manufacturing positions.

🏭 Campus Consolidation: Proximity to JBM’s headquarters reduces transit friction for personnel, materials, and machinery between sites.

Marcus Sheanshang, President and Chief Executive Officer of JBM Packaging, stated that the facility provides the physical infrastructure required to enter new commercial markets, expand client services, and support workforce development across the organisation.

Climate-Controlled Infrastructure

The facility's layout integrates multiple stages of the contract manufacturing and packaging supply chain into a continuous workflow.

In agricultural and horticultural operations, for instance, the platform can manufacture seed packets, source and store raw seed stock, execute precision filling, construct custom retail point-of-sale displays, and dispatch completed units directly into retail channels.

To support seasonal inventory surges and sensitive agricultural commodities, the site features a 35,000-cubic-foot climate-controlled storage room engineered for environmental stability.

Beyond seed applications, the operational expansion provides JBM with the production capacity to onboard consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies seeking paper-based packaging, pouching, kitting, and custom filling services. Additionally, shifting contract packaging into the standalone site frees up physical space at JBM's headquarters to install additional paper-converting machinery.

Workforce Development and Fair Chance Hiring Programme

The facility expansion directly scales JBM's Fair Chance hiring programme, an enterprise initiative providing employment pathways for individuals facing barriers to conventional employment, including formerly incarcerated persons.

Approximately 40 per cent of JBM's current workforce has entered the company through the Fair Chance initiative. The contract packaging operation provides introductory entry points where employees receive technical training, build foundational manufacturing skills, and advance into specialised technical and managerial positions.
