Hormel Foods Corporation has appointed Joe O'Connor as Group Vice President, Enterprise Performance, effective 26 October 2026.
In his new post, O'Connor will direct enterprise performance operations across the Fortune 500 company, coordinating with diverse business units and operational functions to streamline decision-making frameworks, advance cross-functional planning processes, and support long-term corporate growth.
The leadership appointment arrives as Hormel Foods prepares for an executive succession, with incoming leadership focusing on operational alignment across its multi-category packaged food portfolio.
"Through his leadership of Applegate and, more recently, our emerging brands business, Joe has demonstrated an ability to build strong teams, adapt to changing market conditions and deliver results," said John Ghingo, President and Chief Executive Officer-Elect at Hormel Foods. "His enterprise perspective, strategic mindset and proven leadership make him exceptionally well suited to lead enterprise performance and help drive our long-term success."
Executive Responsibilities
The enterprise performance division serves as an operational bridge between corporate strategy and brand execution across Hormel Foods' packaged foods estate.
In his expanded role, O'Connor will hold enterprise-wide oversight over core planning mechanisms:
Cross-Functional Planning Alignment: Integrating supply chain, sales forecasting, and trade marketing teams to improve demand responsiveness.
Portfolio Decision-Making: Guiding capital and operational resource allocation across mature brands and high-growth retail platforms.
Operational Efficiency: Streamlining internal processes to preserve operating margins amid shifting retail grocery dynamics and input cost volatility.
Career Trajectory across Emerging Brands
O'Connor transitions into the group vice presidency after serving as Vice President, Emerging Brands, where he directed operations across the company's premium natural and deli portfolios, including Applegate Farms and Columbus Craft Meats.
Over a 20-year career with Hormel Foods, O'Connor has accumulated commercial experience spanning sales, marketing, category management, and general management:
Commercial Inception (2006): Joined Hormel Foods as a regional sales representative in Chicago, subsequently advancing through category management, customer business management, and regional sales leadership roles.
Applegate Leadership (2020–2022): Appointed Vice President of Sales and Marketing at natural meat subsidiary Applegate in 2020, before being elevated to President of Applegate and Assistant Vice President of Emerging Brands in 2022.
Emerging Brands Portfolio (2025–2026): Assumed direct commercial oversight of Hormel's emerging brands platform, managing organic growth and premium deli positioning across Applegate and Columbus Craft Meats.
Prior to joining Hormel Foods in 2006, O'Connor held commercial and merchandising roles with snack manufacturer Snyder's of Hanover, Clemens Markets, and distributor Albert Organics. He holds a bachelor's degree in food marketing from Saint Joseph's University.
