GateDrop, a new entrant in the functional confectionery space, has announced its national launch, introducing a portable energy gummy designed to challenge the dominant liquid energy drink format. Founded by motocross enthusiasts Tim Near and Kyle Tyrrell, the brand leverages a "gate drop" aesthetic—referencing the high-adrenaline moment before a race—to target athletes, professionals, and on-the-go consumers seeking flexible caffeine delivery.


The product is now available via the brand’s direct-to-consumer platform, with a rapid retail expansion currently underway across the United States.



Functional Energy Market

The global energy category is projected to reach a valuation of 130 billion dollars by 2030. GateDrop is positioning its gummies as a "cleaner" and more practical alternative to the traditional 16-ounce energy drink can. Unlike liquid formats, which often require immediate consumption once opened, the gummy format allows users to customise their intake based on their specific activity levels.


Tim Near, Co-Founder and CEO of GateDrop, noted that energy requirements are rarely "all or nothing." By providing a format that can be carried in a pocket or gym bag without risk of freezing or requiring refrigeration, the brand is addressing the portability limitations that often hinder the growth of the traditional energy drink sector in extreme environments or travel settings.



Technical Formulation and Precise Dosing Model

GateDrop gummies are engineered for consistency and transparency in dosing. Each gummy contains 25mg of all-natural caffeine derived from green, unroasted coffee beans, allowing users to increment their energy intake in small, manageable steps.

Key product specifications include:


  • Clean Label Profile: Vegan, gluten-free, and formulated with all-natural caffeine and added vitamins.


  • Caloric Density: Each four-gummy pack contains 35 calories and 8g of sugar.


  • Operational Stability: The products feature a two-year shelf life and are formulated to resist freezing, making them suitable for year-round outdoor use.



This precise formulation is a result of a two-year development cycle, utilising Near’s background in food science to ensure the product delivers a "clean" energy spike without the crash associated with synthetic stimulants.

To support its national rollout, GateDrop has assembled a leadership team with a diverse pedigree in the consumer-packaged goods (CPG) and beverage industries. The team includes executives with prior experience at major global brands, including:

This deep industry expertise is reflected in the brand’s go-to-market strategy, which combines high-impact digital marketing with a localised athlete partnership program. Market Expansion and Athlete Partnerships

The launch coincides with the debut of "Team GateDrop," an athlete partnership program featuring action sports figures such as Rachel Van Diepen, Christina Muccio, and Carter Biese. These partnerships are intended to validate the product’s performance in high-intensity environments while building brand equity within the motocross and outdoor communities.


As GateDrop scales its in-store availability, the company aims to capitalise on the "permissible indulgence" trend, where consumers seek functional benefits in snack-like formats. By moving the "gate drop moment" from the racetrack to the broader consumer market, the brand is attempting to redefine how energy is carried, consumed, and measured in daily routines.
