Frozen snacking brand Froot Pops has expanded its commercial portfolio beyond chocolate-coated products with the launch of Sours, a confectionery-inspired range of coated frozen fruit snacks.
Debuting exclusively through online supermarket Ocado on 4 November 2026, the line extension introduces two flavour expressions: Zingy Blueberry and Hot Mango. Merchandised in 220g pouches carrying a recommended retail price (RRP) of £6.00, both products will roll out concurrently across independent grocery and convenience retailers via specialist food and health wholesalers, including CLF, OnTheRocks, Nice London, and Woodford Dairies.
The launch follows an initial commercial test run of Blueberry Sours in Tesco Ireland in September 2026, where the product sold out within three days. By combining real whole frozen fruit with clean-label sour and spiced coatings, the line extension is engineered to bridge frozen fruit consumption with high-growth confectionery flavours, providing a clean-label alternative to conventional frozen desserts and ultra-processed sweets.
"We see a huge opportunity to bring the bold, exciting flavour experiences traditionally associated with confectionery into frozen snacking," said Ana Martins, founder of Froot Pops. "With Sours, we're taking everything consumers love about sweet-and-sour treats and giving them a fresh, fruity twist."
Flavour Architecture and Formulations
The Sours range pairs real frozen fruit centres with tangy, spiced topical coatings formulated without artificial colours, flavourings, or synthetic chemical preservatives:
🫐 Zingy Blueberry Sours: Combines whole frozen blueberries enrobed in a sour blend of lemon juice and dragon fruit extract, delivering an acidic, tart contrast to the sweet berry pulp.
🥭 Hot Mango Sours: Pairs frozen mango pieces with a sour chilli coating, balancing natural tropical fruit sugars against tangy acidity and building capsaicin warmth.
The formulations tap into the expanding "swicy" (sweet and spicy) and high-acid flavour dynamics currently driving category growth across mainstream snacking, translating profiles popularised in ambient confectionery into an all-fruit, nutrient-dense frozen format.
Capturing High-Growth Snacking Dynamics
The commercial introduction aligns with rapid growth across both sour confectionery and frozen grocery retail.
According to data from Circana reported in March 2026, sour-flavoured fruit sweets represent one of the highest-growth segments within UK sugar confectionery, expanding 4.5 times faster than the wider sweets category to account for £171 million in sales and 12% of total confectionery value. Concurrently, broader consumer perceptions of frozen food have evolved favourably: recent retail data indicates that 47% of UK adults increased their purchases of frozen items over the past year.
Within digital grocery, retail data from Ocado highlights an 18% year-on-year increase in total frozen food turnover, driven substantially by a 23% value surge across frozen fruit. Packaging pre-coated, ready-to-eat fruit into grab-and-go 220g pouches allows brand owners to capture daytime permissible snacking and evening entertaining occasions that standard commodity frozen smoothie packs fail to address.
Retail Availability and Wholesale Distribution
Froot Pops is executing a dual-track commercial route-to-market across digital grocery multiples and regional independent retail channels:
Ocado Retail Exclusive: Available online across Ocado from 4 November 2026 at an RRP of £6.00 per 220g pack.
Independent Wholesale Distribution: Commercial supply to independent grocers, delicatessens, and convenience operators via CLF, OnTheRocks, Nice London, and Woodford Dairies.
The phased rollout provides the manufacturer with immediate scale across premium digital grocery while establishing physical distribution across independent food retailers ahead of wider supermarket multiple expansion planned for 2027.
