General Mills-owned baking brand Betty Crocker has announced a comprehensive visual identity refresh, launching updated packaging across its entire North American portfolio of cake, brownie, cookie, muffin, bar mixes, and frostings.
The visual overhaul, designated as the "Bettier Than Ever" brand era, updates the company's signature Red Spoon logo while introducing vibrant background colours and updated product photography.
To support the brand refresh ahead of the autumn baking season and New York Fashion Week, the enterprise is coupling the retail rollout with a limited-edition direct-to-consumer (DTC) merchandise drop, "The Betty Ate Collection", featuring cake-slice statement handbags inspired by core cake mix flavours.
Portfolio Visual Refresh and Modernisation
The packaging overhaul modernises the visual hierarchy across Betty Crocker's ambient baking aisle presence, aimed at improving on-shelf findability and appetite appeal across mass and grocery retail stockists.
While the underlying product formulations and recipe specifications remain unchanged, the secondary packaging features updated typography, high-contrast colour coding matched to individual flavour profiles, and refreshed serving photography.
Sarah Peck, Senior Brand Manager for Betty Crocker at General Mills, stated that the visual update modernises the brand's presence in retail aisles while maintaining the established formulation standards expected by home bakers.
Cross-Category Lifestyle Activation
To drive consumer engagement across digital and lifestyle media channels, General Mills is translating its updated packaging visual cues into wearable merchandise.
Crafted from premium vegan leather, "The Betty Ate Collection" features three cake-slice handbags shaped to replicate individual cake layers. Each bag incorporates functional and visual details derived from the updated packaging design:
Colour-Matched Labelling: Secondary bag panels feature colour accents mirroring the updated cake mix boxes.
Signature Red Spoon Pull: Zipper hardware custom-moulded into the shape of Betty Crocker’s Red Spoon.
Customisable Accessories: Supplied with interchangeable decorative attachments, including clip-on birthday candles, chocolate swirls, and strawberry accents.
Handbag Lineup and Product Formulations
The handbag collection translates three core SKU variants from Betty Crocker's Super Moist and Delights cake mix lines into statement accessories:
🍰 Betty Ate Yellow Cake: A yellow cake-slice handbag pairing Betty Crocker Super Moist Yellow Cake Mix with Rich & Creamy Milk Chocolate Frosting visual cues.
🍫 Betty Ate Triple Chocolate Fudge Cake: A chocolate-toned handbag incorporating design elements from Betty Crocker Super Moist Triple Chocolate Fudge Delights Cake Mix and Rich & Creamy Dark Chocolate Frosting.
🍓 Betty Ate Strawberry Cake: A bright pink handbag reflecting Betty Crocker Super Moist Strawberry Delights Cake Mix and Rich & Creamy Cream Cheese Frosting packaging.
Availability
The cross-category campaign illustrates how legacy CPG brand owners deploy direct-to-consumer drops and novelty merchandise to build brand affinity and digital engagement ahead of key seasonal retail windows.
The Betty Ate Collection is retailing at a price point of US$89 per unit, available exclusively through the brand's direct-to-consumer e-commerce portal at shop.BettyCrocker.com.
The initial merchandise drop launched in late August 2026, with a secondary limited allocation scheduled for release on Thursday 10 September 2026. Concurrently, the refreshed packaging architecture is rolling out across nationwide mass, grocery, and discount retail stockists.
