UK supermarket retailer Asda has introduced Asquith 1965, an exclusive seven-strong beer and cider brand developed in collaboration with independent and regional brewing partners.
Rolling out across Asda supermarket stores nationwide and online, the collection covers core craft and traditional beverage styles, including world lager, heritage cider, Irish dry stout, Yorkshire bitter, and hazy IPAs. The range enters the retail beer fixture with pricing structured from £1.00 per can in multipack formats and £2.50 for individual 440ml craft cans.
The product introduction links independent brewing expertise with supermarket scale, creating an exclusive tier that offers flavour-forward styles at entry-level prices.
"With more beer drinkers looking beyond traditional lagers and exploring craft, heritage and flavour-led styles, Asquith gives our customers the chance to discover something new without the premium price tag," said Ryan Truswell, Beer and RTD Buying Manager at Asda. "Rather than simply competing on price, we've developed Asquith to offer more beer for your money, while still delivering real quality and character."
Seven-Strong Portfolio and Brewing Partners
The Asquith 1965 range was co-developed with established regional, national, and international producers, spanning single-hop craft beers, nitrogenated stouts, and heritage fruit ferments:
🍺 Asquith 1965 Lager (5.0% ABV): Brewed in partnership with Spanish brewer Damm at Bedford's Eagle Brewery, delivering a traditional continental world lager profile.
🍏 Heritage Orchard Cider (6.8% ABV): Produced by Herefordshire cider maker Westons and fifth-generation producer Guy Lawrence, pressed from 100% fresh apple juice sourced within 40 miles of the Much Marcle mill.
☕ Irish Nitro Stout (4.1% ABV): Developed by Berkshire-based Siren Craft Brew, formulated with nitrogen dosing to provide a smooth, roasted Irish-style dry stout profile.
🌾 Session Best Bitter (3.4% ABV): Brewed by Yorkshire regional brewer Ossett Brewery, delivering an English amber bitter profile balanced between roasted malts and floral hop bitterness.
🚲 Break the Cycle Session IPA (4.3% ABV): Produced by Leeds-based Kirkstall Brewery, operating out of a former warehouse of Associated Dairies, the retail business that originally founded Asda.
🌫️ Keep Rolling Hazy IPA (4.6% ABV): Sourced through an exclusive UK retail partnership with Zagreb-based craft brewer The Garden Brewery, delivering a light, sessionable hazy ale.
🍊 Stormy Maine Hazy NEIPA (5.8% ABV): Also brewed by The Garden Brewery, delivering tropical, hop-saturated New England IPA aromatics with soft bitterness.
"We've worked with some fantastic breweries and brewing partners to create a range that has genuine provenance and great flavour behind every can," Truswell added. "What's particularly exciting is the breadth of the collection. Asquith is our way of showing that great beer should be accessible to everyone."
Pricing Architecture and Multi-Can Mechanics
Asda is positioning Asquith 1965 to address margin and volume trade-offs within the commercial beer category, offering craft formats without typical speciality retail pricing.
The multipack and promotional architecture includes:
Core Volume Lines: The 1965 Lager and Heritage Orchard Cider are listed at £5.00 per four-pack of 440ml cans and £10.00 per ten-pack.
Stout Pack Formats: The Irish Nitro Stout is priced at £5.00 per four-pack and £10.00 for an eight-pack of 440ml cans.
Craft Single-Serve Multibuys: Keep Rolling Hazy IPA, Stormy Maine Hazy NEIPA, and Break the Cycle Session IPA retail individually at £2.50 per 440ml can, supported by a "4 for 3" promotional multibuy priced at £7.50 for four cans.
Commercial distribution for the complete seven-SKU Asquith 1965 portfolio is active across physical Asda store doors and the grocer's digital e-commerce platform.
