The Marzetti Company launches its Simply Dressed salad dressing line this spring, replacing the existing Simply collection to meet growing consumer demand for recognisable ingredients. comments debug Exchange Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. Featured in this news Food Marzetti Company The Newsroom The Marzetti Company has announced a significant update to its retail portfolio with the nationwide introduction of Marzetti Simply Dressed salad dressings. This new product line is scheduled to arrive on grocery store shelves this spring and will officially replace the brand’s existing Marzetti Simply collection. Clean Label Trends The transition from the "Simply" line to "Simply Dressed" signals a strategic move to align with shifting consumer behaviour in the condiment and dressing category. According to company leadership, the decision is driven by a market-wide "back to basics" movement where buyers prioritise transparency and recognisable components. Tanya Berman, president of The Marzetti Company’s Retail business, stated that the Simply Dressed line is a direct response to consumers seeking foods made with purposeful ingredients. The rebranding emphasises recipes that utilise essential components to achieve a homemade flavour profile, moving away from more complex industrial formulations. Product Portfolio and Availability The Simply Dressed range launches with six distinct varieties designed to cover major flavour profiles within the category. The initial lineup includes: Homestyle Ranch and Creamy Caesar Balsamic Vinaigrette and Lemon Vinaigrette Strawberry Poppyseed Avocado Green Goddess By replacing the legacy "Simply" line with these updated formulations, Marzetti aims to consolidate its presence in the premium refrigerated dressing segment. The nationwide rollout ensures that the brand maintains its competitive shelf space while updating its value proposition for health-conscious shoppers. With a history spanning 130 years, Marzetti’s latest move reflects a broader industry trend of established legacy brands iterating on existing product lines to maintain relevance. By identifying and acting on the consumer preference for "recognisable ingredients," the company is positioning itself to capture a larger share of the evolving retail market. The move also highlights the importance of SKU rationalisation and brand refreshing in the highly competitive food and beverage sector. As the Simply Dressed line phases into retail environments this spring, the industry will be watching to see how this simplified ingredient approach impacts consumer loyalty and category growth. Featured in this news Food Kraft Heinz The Newsroom Condiment major Kraft Heinz has announced the debut of the HEINZ Love Lid, a customisable packaging innovation designed to give consumers control over sauce dispensing flow. Rolling out in limited-time direct-to-consumer (DTC) bundles across the United States and the United Kingdom during the peak summer grilling season, the three-setting adjustable lid allows users to regulate the volume of ketchup dispensed per squeeze. The release enters the global condiment and packaging innovation sectors, demonstrating how multinational CPG brand owners leverage functional packaging modifications and online consumer engagement trends to drive brand affinity and D2C e-commerce velocity. Packaging Innovation The development of the Love Lid translates consumer discussions surrounding condiment ratios into a physical packaging component. Engineering three distinct aperture settings into a single cap structure, the mechanism enables users to tailor product flow depending on food pairings, from light drizzles to heavy coverage: 👍 Like Setting: Calibrated for light dispensing, providing controlled drizzles suited for dipping side items or lighter applications. ❤️ Love Setting: Configured for standard volume flow, designed for traditional zigzag distribution across hot dogs and sausages. 😍 Crazy Love Setting: Engineered for maximum flow output, suited for heavy coverage across burgers and shared plates. Direct to Consumer The Love Lid execution follows previous packaging innovations from the brand, including the HEINZ Dipper, as Kraft Heinz continues to iterate its core bottle packaging to increase consumer engagement. The commercial rollout relies on a targeted e-commerce bundle mechanism across primary transatlantic markets: US Distribution Channel: Available as a limited-edition promotional bundle offered exclusively through the brand's proprietary e-commerce portal at TheLoveLid.com . UK Distribution Channel: Distributed concurrently in the United Kingdom via the brand's direct-to-consumer platform at HeinzAtHome.co.uk . • Starbucks Korea Dismisses CEO Following Controversial Marketing | FNBX

Shinsegae Group has dismissed Starbucks Korea Chief Executive Sohn Jeong-hyun following swift public backlash and boycott comments debug Exchange Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. Featured in this news Coffee & Tea Starbucks The Newsroom In a stark reminder of the financial and reputational risks associated with localised marketing campaigns, Shinsegae Group has dismissed Starbucks Korea Chief Executive Sohn Jeong-hyun. The termination follows a swift and severe public backlash over a newly launched promotional campaign that was widely perceived as trivialising tragic events in South Korea's modern political history. The controversial "Tank Day" campaign, which went live on Monday, 18 May 2026, was pulled by the company within hours of its launch. However, the rapid withdrawal failed to halt mounting calls for a national boycott of the coffee giant. The scale of the controversy ultimately prompted a direct public rebuke from South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, forcing the brand's majority shareholder, the retail conglomerate Shinsegae Group, to issue a formal apology and execute an immediate leadership change. Political Insensitivity Triggers National Backlash The crisis was sparked by the launch of a marketing campaign for the brand's "Tank Series" tumblers, which were promoted as having a spacious volume designed for large amounts of coffee. However, the timing and specific phrasing of the campaign touched upon deeply sensitive historical traumas: The Anniversary Alignment: The "Tank Day" promotion was launched on 18 May, the national anniversary of the 1980 Gwangju Uprising crackdown. Consumers immediately associated the word "tank" with the military vehicles deployed by the dictatorship to violently suppress pro-democracy protesters. The Torture Reference Tagline: The promotional materials utilised the tagline "put it on the table with a sound of 'Tak!'". This phrase closely mirrors a notorious and highly offensive 1987 military dictatorship statement. The historical regime had attempted to cover up the torture and death of student activist Park Jong-chol by claiming he died suddenly when investigators "hit the desk with a thwack" or "Tak". In South Korea's highly politically conscious consumer market, these references were viewed as a gross trivialisation of a traumatic historical period, uniting consumers and political leadership in condemnation. Corporate Governance and Crisis Management Failure For international brand managers and corporate observers, the joint-venture structure of Starbucks Korea highlights the complexities of maintaining global brand standards whilst managing local operations. Starbucks Korea is operated by local retail conglomerate Shinsegae Group, which owns the majority stake. While joint ventures and licensing agreements allow global brands to scale rapidly by leveraging local expertise, they also expose parent organisations to severe reputational damage if local governance fails: Oversight Gaps: The approval of both the "Tank Day" concept and the highly specific "Tak!" slogan indicates a profound failure in internal vetting processes and historical sensitivity reviews. Flawed Localisation: The use of English-language terms like "Tank Day" to describe product attributes failed to account for the immediate, highly charged cultural translations in the domestic market. Slower Pre-Crisis Due Diligence: While the brand initially clarified that the "Tank Series" was simply one of several volume-focused product rollouts running from 15 to 26 May, the lack of proactive risk assessment regarding the 18 May anniversary represents a significant operational oversight. Parent Company Intervention In response to the escalating crisis, Shinsegae Group moved decisively to limit the damage to the multi-billion-dollar coffee franchise. The dismissal of Sohn Jeong-hyun, who had served as chief executive since 2022, is a clear signal that the conglomerate prioritises immediate brand rehabilitation over executive continuity. In an official statement, the company apologised sincerely for causing deep concern and inconvenience to its customer base. The organisation confirmed that the promotional event has been permanently suspended, and pledged to review and restructure its internal marketing approval processes to prevent similar incidents from recurring. • Nice Rice Rebrands to Drive Premiumisation | FNBX

British challenger brand Nice Rice has unveiled a major rebrand, shifting its strategic focus from sustainability-led messaging to a quality-first brand comments debug Exchange Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. The Newsroom Nice Rice has announced a comprehensive rebrand, marking a strategic shift from environmental messaging to a quality-first positioning. The move is designed to drive premiumisation within the dry rice category, mirroring similar shifts seen in other grocery staple categories such as coffee, olive oil, and beans. The rebrand, centred on the brand promise "Extraordinary Rice for Everyday Cooking", includes a refreshed visual identity, redesigned packaging, and a restructured consumer proposition. The dry rice range featuring the new branding is scheduled to launch in Tesco stores nationwide on 6 July 2026. Since its launch in 2023, Nice Rice initially established its brand identity around the environmental benefits of sustainable rice cultivation. However, internal consumer insights revealed that repeat purchase behaviour was driven primarily by product performance and taste rather than sustainability metrics. The rebrand represents a transition that integrates sustainability as an operational standard while leading consumer-facing communication with quality and provenance. “Food culture is now mainstream - people care more than ever about the quality of what they cook,” said founder Fergus O’Sullivan. “Rice has been left behind. We see a huge opportunity to bring the same care, sourcing standards and excitement to rice that consumers now expect from other pantry staples.” The brand's sourcing model relies on a single-origin, single-variety approach, selecting specific basmati varieties based on cooking performance. The company aims to challenge the commodity status of the category, which is traditionally dominated by anonymous blends and price-driven competition. Retail Growth and Distribution The rebrand coincides with a period of retail expansion for the business. Nice Rice has reported 70% year-on-year sales growth on Ocado. The upcoming nationwide listing with Tesco will complement the brand's existing distribution network, which includes Northern supermarket chain Booths and independent retailers across the UK. The company has indicated that further foodservice and brand partnership agreements are scheduled for release later this summer. Sustainable Operational Standards Despite the shift in marketing focus, Nice Rice maintains its sustainable sourcing infrastructure. Certification: 100% of the brand's growers are certified to sustainable farming standards, and the company operates as a certified B Corp. Transparency: Product-level climate footprints remain published on-pack across the dry rice portfolio. Social Impact: The brand continues to fund the expansion of sustainable farming practices in smallholder agricultural communities through the Nice Rice Foundation.
