Construction is expected to begin later this year, with completion slated for spring 2026. The expansion forms part of Tyson’s long-term strategy to meet rising consumer demand for protein products and enhance operational efficiency across its US manufacturing network. - Rancho La Gloria Expands Into Classic Cocktails with High ABV Launch | FNBX
Rancho La Gloria has launched a new series of 17% ABV agave wine-based cocktails, winning top honours at the 2026 LA Invitational and targeting the premium ready-to-serve market. comments debug Exchange Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. The Newsroom Rancho La Gloria, a prominent player in the agave wine-based margarita segment, has announced a significant expansion of its product portfolio. The brand is moving beyond its signature margaritas to introduce a collection of classic cocktails, including an Espresso Martini, a Cosmopolitan, and a Lemon Drop Martini. The launch follows a successful showing at the 2026 Los Angeles Invitational Wine and Spirits Competition. The collection secured a Gold medal for the Cosmopolitan and Double Gold for the Espresso Martini, which was also named the Best Ready to Drink Cocktail at the event. Premium Ready to Serve The new series represents a strategic shift toward higher-ABV (Alcohol by Volume) offerings within the ready-to-drink (RTD) space. Each 750ml bottle features a 17% ABV, positioning the product at the premium end of the "Ready to Serve" (RTS) market. By utilising an agave wine base, Rancho La Gloria maintains its core brand identity while offering a higher-strength alternative to traditional malt-based RTDs. This move caters to a growing consumer demand for "bar-quality" experiences that can be replicated at home without the need for specialised equipment or manual preparation. Flavour Profiles The expansion focuses on three high-demand classic cocktail profiles that have seen a resurgence in popularity across both retail and on-premise channels: Espresso Martini: A coffee-forward profile with a velvety finish, designed as a premium "pick-me-up" option. Cosmopolitan: A tart blend of cranberry and lime, targeting consumers seeking sophisticated, fruit-led profiles. Lemon Drop Martini: A citrus-based cocktail that balances zesty tartness with a refined finish. These additions are intended to support usage occasions beyond the typical happy hour, including weeknight consumption and high-energy social gatherings. Growth and Distribution Network Rancho La Gloria operates under the Patco Brands umbrella, currently one of the fastest-growing beverage companies in the United States. The expansion comes at a time when classic cocktails are dominating consumer trends, allowing the brand to leverage its existing retail relationships to secure broad placement. The signature cocktail collection has already secured nationwide distribution. It is appearing on the shelves of major national retailers as well as local independent convenience stores, reflecting a multi-channel strategy aimed at both large-format and quick-stop shoppers. Industry Impact and Market Outlook The move signals a broader trend of category leaders diversifying their portfolios to capture "total beverage" spend. By entering the classic cocktail space with award-winning credentials and a higher ABV, Rancho La Gloria is challenging traditional spirits-based RTDs while maintaining the cost and regulatory advantages associated with agave wine. As the RTS sector continues to mature, industry observers expect a further shift toward these "convenience without compromise" formats, where brand consistency and high-quality flavour profiles are the primary drivers of consumer loyalty. Featured in this news Foodservice McDonald's Corporation The Newsroom McDonald's USA has announced a significant expansion of its beverage portfolio with the launch of six new speciality drinks, scheduled to debut nationwide on May 6. The permanent addition of three "Refreshers" and three "crafted sodas" represents a strategic move to capitalise on the high-growth speciality beverage segment, moving beyond traditional soft drinks to offer more complex, customisable options. The initiative is designed to elevate the beverage category from a peripheral menu item to a primary destination driver for the nearly 14,000 McDonald's restaurants across the United States. Expansion into Crafted Sodas The launch signals a shift in McDonald's competitive strategy, targeting a segment of the market previously dominated by speciality coffee shops and boutique soda bars. By introducing "hand-crafted" elements, the company aims to capture the growing consumer demand for premium liquid snacks and midday recharges. Alyssa Buetikofer, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer for McDonald's USA, stated that the brand has focused on perfecting the formulations to ensure quality and consistency at scale. Buetikofer noted that the objective is to make beverages a standalone reason for consumers to visit the Golden Arches, rather than just an accompaniment to a meal. New Product Lineup and Ingredient Innovation The new lineup incorporates several trending ingredients that have seen high engagement in the broader functional and speciality drink sectors, including popping boba and velvety cold foam. Specialty Refreshers Strawberry Watermelon: A lemonade-based drink featuring sweet strawberry and watermelon flavours with freeze-dried strawberry inclusions. Mango Pineapple: A tropical blend with a lemonade base and strawberry popping boba, catering to the "bursting" texture trend. Blackberry Passion Fruit: Pairs bold fruit flavours with lemonade and freeze-dried dragon fruit for visual and flavour complexity. Crafted Sodas Sprite Berry Blast: A modification of the traditional Sprite offering with blue raspberry syrup and a cold foam topper. Orange Dream: A twist on the Hi-C Orange Lavaburst mixed with vanilla flavour and finished with cold foam to mimic a citrus cream profile. Dirty Dr Pepper: Layers the classic Dr Pepper flavour with vanilla and a cloud of cold foam for a rich, textured finish. Scale and Marketing Integration Executing a "hand-crafted" beverage program consistently across 14,000 locations represents a major operational undertaking. The move requires the integration of new prep workflows and ingredient management systems for freeze-dried fruits and boba pearls. To support the launch, McDonald's has collaborated with designer Susan Alexandra to release limited-edition beaded drink carriers. This lifestyle-oriented marketing approach is intended to elevate the brand's cultural relevance and align the new drink series with modern consumer aesthetics. The permanent status of these items indicates McDonald's long-term commitment to the speciality beverage space. - Food-Tech Startup Lasso Debuts Froobies and CronchClub, Leveraging Proprietary 'SpinTech' to Challenge Legacy Snacks | FNBX
Lasso, a food technology company aiming to reinvent packaged food manufacturing, has announced the commercial debut of its first two owned CPG brands: Froobies and CronchClub. comments debug Exchange Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. The Newsroom Lasso , a food technology company aiming to reinvent packaged food manufacturing, has announced the commercial debut of its first two owned CPG brands: Froobies and CronchClub . Arriving just months after the company emerged from stealth and announced its initial fundraise in September, the rapid rollout serves as a commercial proof-of-concept for its proprietary production technology. The launch is positioned as a direct challenge to legacy CPG conglomerates, which Lasso characterises as reliant on slow innovation cycles and the addition of "artificial ingredients and fillers" to capitalise on the current high-protein trend. The 'Lasso SpinTech' Process The two new product lines are the first to be manufactured using Lasso SpinTech . According to the company, this proprietary process physically weaves protein and fibre together by "gently spinning" simple ingredients. This mechanical innovation eliminates the need for traditional formulation crutches—such as additive-heavy chemical binders, excess sugar, or the "dusty protein coatings" often utilised in extruded savoury snacks. By weaving the macronutrients directly into the product matrix, Lasso claims to deliver a cleaner ingredient list while maintaining "craveable" taste and texture. High Macros and Clean Labels Lasso’s initial go-to-market strategy targets two distinct snacking occasions with specialised macros: CronchClub: A protein-forward baked crisp designed to compete in the savoury aisle. It boasts an aggressive macronutrient profile of 21-23g of protein and 7-8g of fibre per serving. The line debuts in four flavours: Original, Herby Ranch, Garden Salsa, and Zesty BBQ. Froobies: A modern, functional take on the nostalgic fruit snack. Positioned for both kids and adults, each package delivers 4g of protein and 3g of fibre with zero added sugar and no artificial dyes or flavours. The GLP-1 Structural Shift Mike Messersmith , CEO of Lasso, framed the launch around broader macroeconomic and health shifts, specifically highlighting the impact of appetite-suppressing medications on consumer expectations. "We’re in the middle of a structural shift in how consumers approach food—a convergence of GLP-1 driven awareness and broader economic pressures that are reshaping expectations around nutrition and value,” Messersmith stated. "Consumers want real innovation, not legacy brands repackaging familiar formulas with added protein and calling it progress." Messersmith also pointed to the company's operational agility as its primary competitive advantage. “Today’s shoppers are more informed and expect meaningful improvements in ingredients, nutrition, and formulation, and they want it now. Traditional food innovation cycles weren’t designed to move at that pace. Because we’ve invested in proprietary technology from day one, we can bring new concepts to market in months, not years." As consumer demand for high-satiety, low-sugar products continues to surge, Lasso's rapid commercialisation indicates a growing trend of vertically integrated food-tech startups bypassing traditional B2B ingredient supply to launch their own consumer-facing brands. The Newsroom Finnish food manufacturer Raisio has secured EUR 1.8 million in funding from Business Finland for a four-year research project dedicated to developing functional fibre ingredients from grain processing side streams. The total value of the project will reach EUR 4.5 million, with Raisio investing an additional EUR 2.7 million of its own capital. The initiative will begin during 2026 and run until the end of 2029, supporting the long-term growth of the company’s New Business operations. The funding represents a major expansion of the group's research capabilities. For context, Raisio’s total research and development expenses stood at EUR 3.2 million in fiscal year 2025. Consortium and Global Network The funding was granted as part of a Finnish consortium comprising 16 companies and research organisations working to promote a sustainable bioeconomy. Coordinated by Åbo Akademi University, the consortium also includes the University of Turku, Aalto University, and 13 industry partners. The combined value of the consortium’s projects is approximately EUR 12 million. These initiatives form part of the international Global Center for Sustainable Bioproducts (GCSB) network. This global alliance brings together universities, research institutes, and industrial partners from Europe, North America, and Asia to accelerate the transition towards a sustainable bioeconomy based on renewable resources. Within this network, Raisio will contribute its expertise in converting agricultural side streams into healthy food ingredients. Valorisation of Grain Side Streams The research project, titled Valorisation of Grain Sidestreams for Functional Fibres, focuses on developing new ingredients and production technologies from grain-based by-products. The primary objectives of the project include: Nutritional and Technical Development: Creating fibre ingredients that deliver clear nutritional and functional benefits for food manufacturing. Resource Efficiency: Optimising the raw material utilisation of grain processing side streams to reduce waste. Commercial Validation: Evaluating and validating potential market applications for the newly developed ingredients. The project will involve scaling up side stream valorisation technologies at Raisio's new pilot plant, which was completed in 2026 at the Raisionkaari industrial site. The construction of this facility was also supported by NextGenerationEU funding from Business Finland. Research and Development Investment Fibre-rich and functional food ingredients remain among the fastest-growing categories in global food innovation, driven by sustained commercial interest in gut health, weight management, and sustainable nutrition. According to Reetta Andolin, Chief Innovation Officer at Raisio, fibre is emerging as a critical area for future food innovation. - M2 Ingredients Solves Extraction Bottleneck with ‘M2Brew’ for Drip and Pod Coffee Formats | FNBX
M2 Ingredients, a leading North American supplier of full-spectrum mushroom ingredients, has announced a major technical breakthrough for the functional beverage category with the launch of M2Brew™. comments debug Exchange Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. Featured in this news Ingredients M2 Ingredients The Newsroom M2 Ingredients , a leading North American supplier of full-spectrum mushroom ingredients, has announced a major technical breakthrough for the functional beverage category with the launch of M2Brew™ . Engineered specifically for traditional brewing systems—including drip, pod, pour-over, and commercial foodservice formats—the new ingredient solves a persistent mechanical and chemical challenge: ensuring that mushroom bioactives actually survive the brewing process and make it through the filter into the finished cup. According to the company, M2Brew™ delivers up to 100 times more beneficial mushroom compounds into the final beverage compared to existing brewed mushroom coffee formats. Overcoming the 'Filter' Barrier Historically, the functional mushroom coffee market has been dominated by instant powders. This format bypasses the complex physics of brewing, but it limits the category's reach into mainstream coffee rituals. When traditional mushroom powders are added to ground coffee for brewing, they present severe operational issues. Dr. Sandra Carter , Founder of M2 Ingredients, explained the technical friction: "Most mushroom ingredients on the market were never designed for traditional coffee systems. When added to ground coffee, they often don’t move efficiently through the filter, and even when they do, only a small, water-soluble fraction of the bioactives ends up in the cup." Furthermore, full-spectrum mushroom powders have historically caused mechanical failures in standard equipment, clogging paper filters and overflowing single-serve pods, rendering them unviable for scaled commercialisation. M2Brew™ was developed using a proprietary process to eliminate grit, cloudiness, and flavour disruption while ensuring the bioactives extract seamlessly alongside the coffee. The Trial vs. Interest Gap The R&D investment is backed by compelling consumer data indicating a massive untapped market. While the U.S. mushroom coffee category has surpassed $1 billion annually , it remains heavily underpenetrated in traditional formats. According to 2025 consumer research conducted by Glass Research surveying over 1,000 U.S. coffee drinkers: Trial: Only 12% of American coffee drinkers have tried mushroom coffee. Intent: A massive 84% report they are interested in trying it. Dr. Julie Daoust , Chief Science and Technology Officer at M2 Ingredients, noted that bridging this gap requires entering the formats consumers already trust.
