Uber Eats has announced a significant leadership transition for its United Kingdom operations, appointing Merve Basci as its new General Manager.
Basci joins the UK division from Trendyol Go, the Turkish food and grocery delivery platform where she served as co-CEO. Her integration into the wider Uber ecosystem follows the company's $700 million acquisition of a majority stake in Trendyol last summer.
Leadership Shuffle and EMEA Expansion
Basci succeeds Matthew Price, who has led the UK business for over four years. In a strategic promotion, Price will transition to the role of Regional General Manager for EMEA North.
In his new capacity, Price will oversee growth strategies across Northern and Eastern Europe, managing a portfolio of markets that includes:
The Netherlands
Ireland
Belgium
Poland
The Nordics
During his tenure as UK lead, Price is credited with steering Uber Eats to become the country's largest delivery platform. Under his watch, the division surpassed the milestone of one billion deliveries and launched key support initiatives for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), such as the Uber Eats Restaurant of the Year Award.
Merve Basci brings a track record of aggressive scaling to the role. At Trendyol Go, she played a pivotal role in building the business to a network of more than 90,000 merchants. She is expected to relocate to the UK in the coming months to oversee the next phase of growth.
Basci commented on the appointment: “The UK is a standout player in the global delivery sector and I am thrilled to be joining the team. Uber Eats has already established itself as the UK’s market leader and I am excited to build on that foundation. I can’t wait to work with the UK’s amazing array of restaurants and help them grow and innovate in a very dynamic landscape."
Matthew Price reflected on his departure and future remit: “After an amazing four years leading the UK business, I’m excited to have the opportunity to accelerate our growth across the North of EMEA. Uber Eats in the UK has seen tremendous momentum in recent years and it’s been a real privilege to help the vibrant UK restaurant community thrive.”
Saskia de Jongh, Vice President and Regional General Manager at Uber Eats EMEA, endorsed the incoming GM's operational pedigree: “Merve has proven to be an incredible operator who brings deep commercial expertise and innovation experience. I am confident Merve will help take our UK team to even greater heights, as we scale our next phase of growth.”
