Active nutrition brand Takeaways has announced the launch of its new savoury protein bar range, representing a direct challenge to the sweet-flavoured products that have historically dominated the functional snacking aisle.
The product rollout is designed to capture market share within the active nutrition sector by offering a savoury option to macro-conscious consumers who prefer salty snacks over traditional dessert-inspired flavours.
The brand has opened online pre-orders on its direct-to-consumer platform, with initial shipping schedules set to commence on 1 July 2026.
Category Innovation and Savoury Formulations
The development of Takeaways was driven by a shift in consumer preferences, as high-protein snackers seek alternatives to sweet formulations. While the functional bar segment is heavily populated with dessert profiles like birthday cake and chocolate brownie, Takeaways utilises a real cheese and milk protein base to deliver a savoury experience.
According to Ashley Baxter, founder of Takeaways, the brand intends to establish a new category in active nutrition, positioning the functional bars as a modern, high-protein alternative to traditional salty snacks.
The initial summer product rollout comprises three distinct savoury flavours:
🍕 Cheese Pizza – Recreating a classic pizza seasoning profile with real cheese.
🌶️ Pepper Jack – Blending a mild spicy kick with a creamy cheese base.
🧀 White Cheddar – A sharp, savoury cheddar cheese formulation.
The bars are manufactured in a mess-free, portable format to suit on-the-go consumption, addressing consumer demand for savoury snacks that do not leave residue on the fingers during transit or workplace settings.
Nutritional Profile and Ingredient Standards
To meet the standards expected by modern wellness-focused consumers, the formulations prioritise macronutrient density and clean-label sourcing.
Each serving is engineered to deliver:
Protein Density: Provides 12g of complete, highly bioavailable protein derived from real milk and cheese to support muscle synthesis.
Caloric Control: Contains 120 calories per bar, offering a portion-controlled option for midday snacking.
Macro Balance: Formulated with 3g of dietary fibre and 1–2g of sugar.
To align with natural-channel retail standards and dietary requirements, the entire product portfolio is gluten-free and manufactured using non-GMO ingredients.
Commercial Rollout and Direct to Consumer
Takeaways is utilising a digital-first commercial model to manage its early volume growth and engage directly with its target consumer demographic.
The pre-sale period commenced on 10 June 2026, via the brand's proprietary e-commerce platform, allowing the business to capture first-party consumer data and gauge regional demand patterns ahead of the official physical dispatch on 1 July 2026.
The product is launching with a suggested retail price (SRP) of $39.99 per 12-pack, representing a unit cost of $3.33 per bar. By combining direct e-commerce distribution with premium ingredient standards, the manufacturer aims to build early brand equity before exploring traditional physical retail and wholesale channels.
