Prodalim, a global provider of juice and speciality ingredient solutions, has announced the expansion of its Solos platform in the United States with the opening of a new facility in Hopland, California. The site represents a strategic milestone in the globalisation of the company’s patented aroma recovery and de-alcoholization technology, positioning the platform within the primary wine-producing region of the United States.
The Hopland facility enters operation with an initial processing capacity of approximately 15 million litres per year. Prodalim has indicated that the site maintains significant potential for near-term expansion to meet rising demand for specialised beverage innovation.
Integration with the California Ecosystem
The selection of Northern California for the new site is a deliberate move to tap into the world’s most significant wine hubs. California currently accounts for more than 80% of total U.S. wine production, generating approximately 2.5 billion litres annually.
By establishing a physical presence in Hopland, Prodalim aims to strengthen collaborations with regional producers, including Rack & Riddle Holdings, LLC, the largest custom sparkling wine producer in the United States. This localised approach allows for tighter integration between raw material sourcing and technical innovation.
Technical Capabilities of the Solos Platform
The Solos platform utilises proprietary, patent-based technology to recover and recreate natural aroma compounds from fermented beverages. This process is critical for the "NoLo" (no and low alcohol) segment, where maintaining sensory authenticity and product quality during de-alcoholization remains a primary technical challenge.
Key technical functions of the Solos platform include:
Aroma Recovery: Identifying and preserving volatile natural aroma compounds often lost during standard processing.
De-alcoholization: Providing a premium platform for the fast-growing non-alcoholic wine and spirit alternatives market.
Sensory Preservation: Ensuring that low-alcohol variants retain the complex flavour profiles of their traditional counterparts.
Corporate Reorganisation and Global Footprint
The California launch follows recent international expansions, including the inauguration of the Solos Iberia facility and joint ventures in Germany and Switzerland. This growth coincides with a strategic reorganisation of Prodalim’s operations into three distinct, purpose-driven divisions:
Juice Solutions: A comprehensive "one-stop-shop" managing sourcing, logistics, formulation, and blending for global juice producers.
Speciality Ingredients and Solutions: A division focused on taste and functional ingredients such as flavours, essential oils, citrus fibres, and natural colours, supported by internal R&D.
SOLOS: The specialised de-alcoholization platform serving the NoLo segment.
Sustainability and Circular Economy Principles
Prodalim’s operations are supported by a vertically integrated, regenerative supply chain. The company has anchored its manufacturing processes in circular economy principles, allowing customers to utilise sustainable sourcing as a core component of their product innovation.
With the addition of the Hopland site, Prodalim now operates four major facilities in the United States. These include the Winter Garden, Florida headquarters and juice hub, a speciality ingredients centre, and dedicated juice terminals in Port Elizabeth, New Jersey, and South Gate, California. This network provides the logistical infrastructure necessary to support both domestic and international beverage brands.
