The latest food and beverage industry news and trend analysis

Prodalim, a global leader in juice and speciality ingredients solutions, has announced the acquisition of Better Juice, a food-tech company specialising in natural sugar-reduction technologies. The acquisition brings proprietary enzymatic capabilities into Prodalim’s portfolio, strengthening its ability to support health-driven reformulation across the food and beverage sectors.

The move aligns with increasing regulatory pressures and shifting consumer preferences, which are driving the global sugar reduction and taste modulation market. Valued at approximately 1.8 billion dollars in 2025, the sector is expected to see annual growth of 6% to 7%in the coming years.

Enzymatic Technology and Natural Sugar Reduction

Better Juice has developed a proprietary enzymatic process that directly addresses the complex challenges of sugar reduction in fruit-based applications. The technology converts natural fruit sugars into non-digestible components, such as dietary fibres. This enables significant calorie reduction while preserving the fruit’s natural characteristics.

The technology offers several critical advantages for B2B formulators:

  • Clean Label Profile: Enables significant sugar reduction without the need for artificial sweeteners or synthetic sugar substitutes.

  • Sensory Preservation: Maintains the original flavour, mouthfeel, and nutritional integrity of the raw materials.

  • Cross Category Application: Beyond beverages, the technology is highly applicable in adjacent categories, including dairy and confectionery, where achieving sugar reduction without impacting sensory quality has traditionally been difficult.

US Market Expansion and Manufacturing Integration

Prodalim plans to rapidly scale the acquired technology, beginning with a targeted expansion into the United States market. The company will implement a new production line dedicated to the enzymatic process at its existing facility in Winter Garden, Florida. Manufacturing at this site is expected to commence in the second half of 2026.

Moving forward, Prodalim intends to continue investing in the advancement of Better Juice's technology to broaden its application range and commercial impact across its global supply chain, with a specific focus on high-value, better-for-you nutritional solutions.

Corporate Restructuring and Vertical Integration

The acquisition of Better Juice reflects a broader corporate transformation for Prodalim. The company is positioning itself as a vertically integrated provider of "purpose-driven" ingredient solutions. As part of this transition, Prodalim has reorganised its operations into three distinct divisions:

  • Juice Solutions: A comprehensive division acting as a one-stop shop for juice producers, covering sourcing, logistics, formulation, and blending.

  • Speciality Ingredients and Solutions: Delivering taste and functional ingredients supported by in-house R&D, including FTNF (From The Named Fruit) extracts, flavours, essential oils, citrus fibres, and natural colours.

  • SOLOS: A premium, patent-based de-alcoholization platform targeting the fast-growing NoLo (no and low alcohol) beverage segment.

By anchoring these three divisions within a vertically integrated supply chain based on circular economy principles, Prodalim aims to provide food and beverage manufacturers with the infrastructure required to innovate around sustainability and performance. The integration of Better Juice ensures the company is well-equipped to lead the industry shift toward clean-label sugar mitigation.
