Prime Roots, a manufacturer of mycelium-based deli meats, has officially launched its product line nationwide in Canada. The expansion is facilitated by a new distribution partnership with Dot Foods Canada, North America’s largest food industry redistributor. This agreement enables retail and foodservice operators of all sizes to source the brand's plant-based alternatives directly through their existing distribution networks.
Targeting the Canadian Plant-Based Market
The nationwide rollout aims to capture a growing demographic in Canada, where nearly one-third of consumers identify as flexitarian, vegan, or vegetarian.
To differentiate itself in the alternative protein sector, Prime Roots is positioning its fungi-based deli meats as a clean-label, whole-food solution. The company reports that its product line is currently the only allergen-free plant-based deli meat option available in Canada. The formulations are free from soy, gluten, nitrates, and preservatives, specifically targeting consumers seeking less processed plant-forward alternatives.
Foodservice and Retail Application
Manufactured domestically in Canada, the product line is engineered as an operationally friendly plug-and-play solution for commercial kitchens and deli counters. The brand is targeting a wide array of foodservice channels, including grocery deli counters, independent restaurants, pizzerias, schools, healthcare facilities, and hospitality operators.
Kimberlie Le, Co-Founder of Prime Roots, stated that returning the Canadian-founded company to its home market fulfills a consistent demand from local operators and consumers. The brand indicates that early adoption in similar channels has delivered proven incremental revenue for retail and restaurant partners.

The initial Canadian product rollout features six specialised mycelium-based deli cuts engineered to replicate traditional meat textures and flavour profiles.
