Mission Foods has broadened its Better for You snack portfolio with the launch of two new product lines: Mission Protein Tortilla Style Chips and Mission Grain Free Tortilla Style Chips.
Entering retail distribution across four distinct flavour profiles, the launch introduces plant-based protein fortification alongside alternative grain-free flours to the brand's ambient snack lineup. The products are formulated to address rising consumer demand for functional macronutrients, dietary fibre, and recognisable ingredient decks within everyday savoury snacking routines.
The product ranges have launched nationwide through supermarket operator Kroger and its retail banner affiliates, with a broader commercial rollout across additional US grocery multiples planned throughout the autumn.
Flavour Portfolio and Formulations
The multi-category launch introduces two distinct product architectures, providing consumers with targeted functional attributes across four savoury flavour varieties:
Mission Protein Tortilla Style Chips
Delivering 10 grams of plant-based protein per serving, the line is formulated as a vegan and gluten-free snack designed to support daily dietary protein goals:
🌶️🍋 Chile Limón: Combines zesty citrus lime notes with warming chilli heat over a crisp tortilla-style chip.
🌶️ Jalapeño: Delivers a bright, herbaceous green pepper heat balanced by savoury seasoning.
Mission Grain Free Tortilla Style Chips
Manufactured without conventional grains or maize, the grain-free line utilises alternative root flours and nutrient-dense seeds to provide a source of dietary fibre:
🧂 Sea Salt: A classic, clean-label formulation highlighting the natural flavours of cassava and avocado oil with sea salt seasoning.
🍋‍🟩 Hint of Lime: Pairs a crisp cassava base with a tangy citrus twist engineered for dipping and tabletop snacking.
Functional Nutrition and Ingredients
The product development translates mainstream dietary preferences into traditional tortilla chip formats, focusing on clean-label oils and whole-food ingredients.
The Grain Free Tortilla Style Chips are manufactured using 100 per cent cassava flour, cold-pressed avocado oil, and whole chia seeds. Certified Non-GMO Project Verified and formulated as a source of dietary fibre, the chips are engineered to maintain structural rigidity and crunch for salsa, guacamole, and hot dip applications without relying on traditional corn or wheat grains.
Concurrently, the Protein Tortilla Style Chips supply 10g of plant-derived protein per serving while meeting certified gluten-free and vegan standards, providing a functional alternative to conventional corn chips.
Sathish Mohanraju, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Mission Foods, stated that the company's Better for You platform focuses on delivering options that align with contemporary lifestyles while maintaining flavour quality. Mohanraju noted that protein and fibre remain two primary nutrients shoppers actively seek in the grocery aisle, adding that incorporating these elements into tortilla chips provides consumers with convenient snacks that support personal dietary preferences.
Retail Distribution
Mission Foods is executing a targeted retail deployment strategy across major US grocery channels:
Initial Retail Footprint:Â Nationwide physical availability secured across Kroger and affiliated supermarket banners.
Phased Autumn Expansion:Â Distribution scheduled to expand across mass merchants and independent grocery retailers nationwide over the coming months.
Fixture Placement:Â Positioned directly within the primary supermarket savoury snack and tortilla chip aisles.
The launch equips retail category managers with a functional, better-for-you snack platform from an established brand leader, designed to capture incremental volume across health-conscious, grain-free, and high-protein snacking occasions.
