Clean-label sports nutrition brand Levels has introduced Maple Cinnamon Whey Protein, marking the first limited-edition flavour release in the company's ten-year operating history.
Formulated with real cinnamon and natural maple flavouring, the seasonal SKU enters the market as an alternative to the ubiquitous pumpkin spice profiles that traditionally dominate autumn food and beverage launches. The product will undergo a phased commercial rollout initiating on TikTok Shop before expanding to direct-to-consumer (DTC) channels and nationwide specialty retail at The Vitamin Shoppe.
The launch is supported by the brand's "End the Pumpkin Propaganda" campaign, highlighting consumer fatigue with artificial autumn flavours while reinforcing minimal-ingredient formulations within functional protein powders.
"Our Maple Cinnamon Whey Protein has everything we love about the season while staying true to what Levels has always stood for: clean, minimal-ingredient protein, flavour, and nothing fake," said Blake Niemann, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Levels. "Pumpkin spice has become the default setting for fall, and we thought people deserved a better choice."
Clean-Label Formulation and Nutritional Profile
The limited-run release translates seasonal bakery notes into an undenatured whey protein matrix without relying on artificial additives:
🍁 Maple Cinnamon Whey Protein: Delivers 24 grams of protein and 5.4 grams of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) per scoop, flavoured using real ground cinnamon and natural maple extracts.
Adhering to the brand's core formulation standards, the powder contains no artificial sweeteners, synthetic dyes, or chemical fillers.
The SKU holds the Clean Label Project Purity Award, requiring independent laboratory testing for environmental and industrial contaminants, including heavy metals, pesticide residues, and plasticisers. The clean-deck architecture is designed for multi-use consumption, serving as a functional mix-in for morning coffees, oatmeal, smoothies, and baked goods alongside traditional water or milk shakers.
Seasonal Dynamics in Sports Nutrition
The introduction reflects evolving flavour strategies within active lifestyle nutrition, where brand owners increasingly use temporary seasonal line extensions to generate purchase frequency and basket additions.
While ambient sweet bakery and ready-to-drink coffee categories have historically anchored autumn retail around pumpkin flavours, sports nutrition formulators are broadening into secondary seasonal profiles—such as maple, spiced apple, and cinnamon—to appeal to consumers seeking comforting flavour profiles with whole-food ingredient declarations.
"We're not anti-fall. We're not even anti-pumpkin," added Niemann. "We're anti-pumpkin monopoly. Fall is too good to let one fake flavour run the entire season."
Maple Cinnamon Whey Protein will remain available across digital and retail stockists throughout the autumn promotional period while limited batch volumes last.
