Bimbo Bakeries USA, a subsidiary of multinational bakery company Grupo Bimbo, has expanded its sweet baked goods portfolio with the launch of a co-branded snack collection developed in partnership with The Hershey Company.
The product rollout introduces four chocolate-infused pastry lines under Grupo Bimbo’s established Marinela and Bimbo brands. The launch represents a significant commercial expansion, bringing product formulations that were previously validated in the Mexican market to conventional and convenience retail channels across the United States.
By leveraging the brand equity of a major US confectionery manufacturer alongside high-penetration Hispanic bakery brands, the partnership aims to capture incremental volume sales within the highly competitive sweet snacking aisle.
Cross Brand Licensing
The strategic alliance between Grupo Bimbo and Hershey highlights an ongoing focus within the consumer packaged goods (CPG) sector on cross-brand licensing to drive category value.
Historically, Hispanic snack brands such as Bimbo and Marinela have maintained deep regional brand loyalty within specific demographic pockets. By integrating Hershey’s chocolate flavour profiles directly into these traditional pastry formats, the manufacturers are positioning the products to bridge the gap between niche import sections and mainstream sweet baked goods shelving.
According to Bimbo Bakeries USA leadership, the initial commercial rollout in Mexico demonstrated high consumer velocity and engagement, providing a strong operational foundation for the subsequent US launch. The integration allows both companies to expand their respective consumer touchpoints during key afternoon and convenience-led snacking windows.
Product Formulations and Specifications
The sweet baked goods collection comprises four distinct product formats, combining classic yeast-based and sponge-cake recipes with chocolate and cocoa fillings:
🍰 Marinela Hershey's Snack Cake – A multi-layered chocolate sponge cake featuring a creamy vanilla filling, fully enrobed in a Hershey's chocolate coating.
🐧 Marinela Hershey's Pingüinos – A chocolate-forward variation of Marinela's signature Pingüinos pastries, formulated with a Hershey's chocolate cream filling and finished with a dark chocolate glaze.
🧁 Bimbo Hershey's Mantechox – A soft, muffin-style bakery product injected with a smooth Hershey’s cocoa filling.
🥐 Bimbo Hershey's Crossantines Minis – Miniature, soft-baked croissants filled with sweet chocolate, packaged in a portable bag format developed for school lunches and on-the-go consumption.
To support the commercial launch, the packaging utilises a bold dual-branding design. The graphics display the signature logos of the respective pastry brands alongside the recognisable silver and brown branding of the Hershey's chocolate portfolio to ensure immediate shelf standout.
Distribution
The rollout of the co-branded portfolio is supported by Grupo Bimbo's extensive logistics network in the United States. Operating as the largest commercial bakery business in the US, Bimbo Bakeries USA manages a vast direct-store-delivery (DSD) network that services national supermarkets, hard discounters, and independent convenience stores.
According to Paula Flores, Senior Brand Manager for Marinela at Bimbo Bakeries USA, innovation continues to serve as the primary driver for portfolio diversification within the company's sweet treats division. She noted that combining the distinct baking expertise of Marinela and Bimbo with the chocolate formulation capabilities of Hershey's provides retail partners with a highly differentiated product line designed to stimulate impulse purchases at the front of the store.
The co-branded snack range is entering national retail distribution, with product availability systematically scaling across major supermarket chains and grocery networks.
