Anheuser-Busch has announced a $23 million capital investment in its Fort Collins, Colorado brewery to scale up production for Michelob ULTRA, improve distribution logistics, and establish a dedicated manufacturing training centre.
The expenditure forms part of the brewer's multi-year "Brewing Futures" programme, a $600 million capital investment plan across its US manufacturing network spanning 2025 and 2026. The capital deployment brings total investment into the Fort Collins operation to $93 million since 2021.
"Our investment in the Fort Collins Brewery strengthens our ability to brew and deliver the world-class beers consumers know and love, including Michelob ULTRA," said Brendan Whitworth, Chief Executive Officer of Anheuser-Busch.
"As a proud American manufacturer, investments at this scale help fuel economic growth, create and sustain high-quality jobs, and reinforce our long-term commitment to the communities where we live and work."
Packaging Lines and Supply Chain Infrastructure
A core element of the $23 million investment addresses packaging infrastructure and supply-chain logistics at the site.
The facility will install technical upgrades allowing it to package Michelob ULTRA in 25-ounce single-serve cans, addressing commercial retail demand for large-format convenience packaging. Alongside packaging line additions, the brewer is expanding on-site rail infrastructure to increase cargo handling capacity, streamlining inbound raw material delivery and outgoing finished goods distribution across regional markets.
"Anheuser-Busch's $23 million investment in the Fort Collins Brewery is tremendous news for our community and our state," said Colorado State Representative Andrew Boesenecker.
"This facility has been a backbone of Fort Collins' economy for 38 years, providing hundreds of quality manufacturing jobs and strengthening our local tax base. This investment reaffirms Anheuser-Busch's commitment to Colorado and demonstrates confidence in our workforce and community."
Technical Workforce Upskilling and Training
The capital allocation also finances the creation of an in-house technical skills training centre situated directly within the Fort Collins complex.
The training hub is one of 15 specialised centres the company is constructing across its US brewing footprint. The facility will deliver hands-on technical programmes for operators and technicians, focusing on the electrical, mechanical, and automation systems used across modern high-speed brewing and packaging operations.
The initiative supports the company's objective to upskill more than 90% of its domestic manufacturing labour force over the next five years, adapting workforce technical capabilities to increasingly automated industrial operations.
Long-Term Industrial Presence in Northern Colorado
Operating in northern Colorado since 1988, the Fort Collins brewery maintains an operational portfolio spanning more than 48 beverage brands, including core labels such as Budweiser, Bud Light, Busch Light, and Michelob ULTRA.
Beyond standard commercial brewing, Fort Collins serves as one of two Anheuser-Busch plants nationwide, alongside its sister facility in Cartersville, Georgia, equipped to convert brewing and canning lines to produce emergency canned drinking water. Since the relief programme's inception in 1988, the two sites have jointly produced more than 100 million cans of drinking water distributed to communities across the US following natural disasters and utility emergencies.
