Taylor Farms, North America’s largest producer of ready-to-eat salads, has announced the launch of a new 11-product platform designed for high-protein lifestyles. This strategic expansion marks a shift from traditional fresh produce toward "functional" foods by integrating protein, dense ingredients—including whey-infused dressings, protein-enriched croutons, and speciality cheeses—into the brand's core salad and snack lines.
Addressing the Functional Food Trend
The move is a direct response to the widespread consumer trend of increasing daily protein intake. By combining fresh produce with macro-nutrient-focused additives, Taylor Farms aims to provide a comprehensive nutritional solution in a single package.
"Consumers want more than just fresh — they want functional," stated Bryan Jaynes, Senior Vice President of Product.
The platform is designed to serve as a bridge between the produce department and the sports nutrition category, offering convenience-oriented meals that support specific fitness and health goals.
Technical Innovation in Formulations
The development of the protein-forward line involved re-engineering traditional salad components to maximise protein content without compromising flavour or shelf stability. Key innovations include:
Whey-Infused Dressings: Integration of whey protein into Caesar, Southwest Ranch, and Green Goddess dressings to boost protein counts.
Specialised Toppings: Inclusion of whole wheat and chickpea flour in croutons and chips, alongside pepitas and protein-heavy seeds.
Curated Cheese Selection Strategic use of parmesan, mozzarella, and cheddar—cheeses naturally higher in protein—to enhance the macro-nutrient profile.
The 11-product rollout covers three primary categories: Chopped Salad Kits, Salad Bowls, and Power Snacks.
Chopped Salad Kits and Mini Kits
The flagship Protein Caesar Chopped Salad Kit provides 21 grams of protein per serving, while the Protein Southwest and Green Goddess variants offer 20 and 21 grams, respectively. Mini-kit versions have also been developed to provide a 10-gram protein snack option.
Protein Salad Bowls
These bowls integrate grilled white meat chicken and protein-fortified pasta. The Protein Green Goddess Pasta Salad Bowl and Protein Southwest Salad Bowl both deliver 23 grams of protein, positioning them as viable meal replacements for the lunch and dinner segments.
Power Snacks
The snack line combines fresh vegetables like broccoli and carrots with cheddar or pepper jack cheese and "Power Trail Mixes." These snacks range from 13 to 17 grams of protein per container, utilising whey protein dips as a primary protein driver.
Strategic Marketing and National Rollout
The platform is now available nationwide, supported by an integrated marketing campaign spanning e-commerce, social media, and in-store promotions. Taylor Farms has indicated that this initial 11-item launch is the first phase of a larger rollout, with additional protein-centric products expected to debut in the coming months.
This expansion reinforces Taylor Farms' dominant position in the value-added produce category while signalling a broader industry move toward nutrient-dense, shelf-ready convenience foods.
