Panera Bread has announced the national rollout of two new premium beverage categories: Frescas and Energy Refreshers. This move is part of a broader strategy to redefine the premium beverage experience within the fast-casual segment by leveraging high-quality ingredients and real fruit infusions.


The launch aims to capture consumer interest in both functional, caffeinated options and artisanal, caffeine-free refreshments, positioning the brand as a destination for speciality beverages throughout the day.



Functional and Caffeine-Free Beverage Portfolio

The new lineup includes four distinct chef-crafted options designed to cater to different consumer needs, ranging from energy-boosting coffee alternatives to fruit-forward hydration.


Energy Refreshers

These caffeinated beverages utilise natural flavours and real fruit pieces. The specific offerings include:


  • Dragonfruit Sunset Energy Refresher: A tropical blend of pineapple and dragonfruit.


  • Passionfruit Paradise Energy Refresher: A combination of passionfruit, guava, and orange flavours infused with fresh pineapple.



The caffeine content in these beverages is calibrated to provide a moderate boost, with approximately 28 mg of caffeine in a 20-ounce serving and up to 44 mg in a 30-ounce serving.



Frescas

The Fresca category provides caffeine-free alternatives focused on botanical and fruit flavour profiles:


  • Cherry Lime Fresca: A blend of cherry and lime flavours infused with tart cherries.


  • Strawberry Basil Lemonade Fresca: A returning favourite featuring agave lemonade, strawberry puree, and fresh basil.



Strategic Innovation in Bakery Offerings

Alongside the beverage expansion, Panera is reintroducing a focus on its bakery roots with new high-quality pastry items. A key addition is the Dubai Style Chocolate Pistachio Cookie. This premium offering features a pistachio cream filling and crunchy pistachio pieces, reflecting the brand's commitment to trend-driven menu innovation using elevated ingredients.



Mark Shambura, Chief Marketing Officer at Panera Bread, emphasised that the new categories represent a shift toward more invigorating and distinctive drink options. The goal is to combine bold flavour profiles with the clean, high-quality ingredients that define the Panera brand, ensuring the menu remains competitive in the evolving beverage landscape.


As Panera continues to reintroduce industry-leading bread and pastry varieties throughout the year, these premium additions serve to bolster the brand’s positioning as a leader in the fast-casual industry.
