The latest food and beverage industry news and trend analysis

HIPPEAS®, the plant-based snack brand known for its chickpea-based puffs and tortilla chips, has announced a comprehensive creative and packaging refresh. The rollout, set to hit U.S. retail shelves nationwide in March 2026, signals a new strategic chapter for the brand as it leverages recent financial momentum to expand its presence in the "better-for-you" snacking aisle.

The visual overhaul follows a highly successful 2025 for the company, during which HIPPEAS reported achieving its most profitable year to date and a return to double-digit net sales growth.

Capitalising on Momentum

Rather than a turnaround effort, the rebrand is positioned as an acceleration strategy. By updating its visual identity while the business is on an upward trajectory, leadership aims to solidify the brand's foundation before aggressively scaling its portfolio.

César Melo, CEO of HIPPEAS®, framed the redesign within the company's broader operational goals: "Coming off a highly successful 2025, this brand update builds on a beloved foundation established over many years and reflects our confidence in the long-term strength of the HIPPEAS platform. As we look ahead, we're excited to pursue disciplined growth, purposeful expansion at scale, and continue transforming snacking in the U.S. and around the world."

Maximising Shelf Impact

In the highly saturated and visually cluttered salty snack category, the new packaging is engineered for immediate brand blocking and consumer recognition.

The updated architecture dials up the brand's signature "Sunshine Yellow" to create a high-contrast, "colour-drenched" presence on the shelf. Key design updates include:

  • Character IP: The introduction of a new, playful chickpea mascot to humanise the brand and increase affinity among younger demographics.

  • Refined Iconography: An amplified version of the brand's recognisable lip-licking smile logo.

  • Messaging Hierarchy: Prominent spotlighting of the "Snack With PEAS of Mind" tagline, alongside clearer visibility of the physical product inside to drive appetite appeal.

Innovation Pipeline and Core Values

The packaging refresh serves as the visual launchpad for an aggressive 2026 innovation pipeline. HIPPEAS indicated that it is gearing up to introduce a wave of "bold new flavour offerings" across its existing formats, as well as venturing into "entirely new snack experiences" later this year.

Nick Marmet, VP of Marketing, noted that these upcoming innovations will continue to lean into the brand's functional strengths.

"As we move into 2026, we're building on the equity we've earned—doubling down on bold flavour, functional benefits like protein and fibre from our hero legume ingredients, and a visual identity that clearly reflects the joy and optimism at the heart of our brand."

Crucially for B2B buyers and ESG-focused retailers, the brand confirmed that its sourcing mission remains unchanged. HIPPEAS will continue to utilise sustainably grown peas and chickpeas that support soil health and regenerative agricultural practices, maintaining its appeal to the ethically-minded modern consumer.
