Elopak, the Norwegian-headquartered leader in liquid food packaging, has confirmed a transition in its executive leadership. Following the resignation of Thomas Körmendi, the Board of Directors has named Chief Financial Officer Bent K. Axelsen as interim CEO, effective from 8 May 2026.
To maintain financial oversight during this period, Ola Buarøy, currently Director of Finance and Tax, has been appointed as interim CFO. The board has emphasised that Elopak’s overarching strategic direction and long-term sustainability priorities remain unchanged during this transition.
Operational Stability and Leadership Background
Bent K. Axelsen joined Elopak as CFO in 2019 and has been a central figure in the company’s financial management and strategic execution over the last seven years. His appointment as interim CEO is designed to provide immediate stability and direction as the organisation navigates the transition period.
Dag Mejdell, Chair of the Board, stated that Axelsen brings deep knowledge of the business and a strong financial record. The board expressed high confidence in his ability to guide the company while the search for a permanent successor progresses.
Legacy of Growth and Permanent Search Status
The board acknowledged the contributions of outgoing CEO Thomas Körmendi, credited with strengthening Elopak’s global market position and accelerating its sustainability initiatives. During his tenure, Körmendi guided the company through its transition to a listed entity and reinforced its presence as a primary alternative to plastic packaging in the liquid food sector.
The recruitment process for a permanent CEO is reportedly progressing well. Elopak expects to announce a permanent appointment by the second quarter of 2026, ensuring a minimal period of interim leadership.
Founded in 1957, Elopak has evolved from a regional supplier into a global infrastructure provider for the dairy, juice, and liquid food categories. The company’s Pure-Pak® cartons are utilised in more than 70 countries, supported by a global workforce of over 3,000 employees.
