CO2Sustain®, a specialist drinks technology company, has announced a strategic consolidation of its product portfolio, merging its two flagship solutions CO2Sustain™ and TasteMod2™ into a single, next-generation ingredient: TM2.
The new dual-action product is engineered to deliver both superior taste modification and enhanced carbonation retention. The launch comes in direct response to feedback from beverage brands, co-packers, and New Product Development (NPD) teams seeking multifunctional ingredients to streamline increasingly complex manufacturing processes.
Solving the Low-Sugar Formulation Trilemma
The development of TM2 addresses specific operational and sensory hurdles driven by the booming low- and no-sugar beverage market. As manufacturers increasingly rely on high-intensity sweetener systems like stevia, they face a trifecta of challenges: lingering metallic aftertastes, carbonation instability, and excessive foaming during the production line filling process.
By combining its specialised technologies, CO2Sustain® aims to help manufacturers:
Streamline Formulations: Reducing the number of distinct additives required in the ingredient deck.
Optimise Production: Specifically, reducing the stevia-induced foaming issues that can slow down filling lines.
Accelerate NPD: Simplifying the formulation process to bring new beverages to market faster and maintain product quality at scale.
TM2 Technical Capabilities
The unified TM2 product maintains the complete functional performance of its predecessor solutions, offering a two-pronged benefit for beverage developers:
Taste Improvement: The ingredient acts as a taste modifier, actively reducing the bitterness, metallic notes, and lingering sweetness often associated with modern artificial and natural sweetener systems. This enhances overall flavour clarity and mouthfeel.
Carbonation Retention: Functioning as a stabilising agent, TM2 prevents CO2 from escaping the liquid too quickly. This ensures beverages retain their fizz longer, improving the consumer sensory experience from the first sip to the last.
Jamie Bentley, CEO of CO2Sustain®, framed the merger as a strategic evolution driven by client demand for operational simplicity.
“Our customers were clear: they wanted the full capability of both technologies in one easy-to-use ingredient,” Bentley stated. “As innovators, it’s our responsibility to stay agile and evolve with the needs of the drinks industry. Unifying our technology into one product—TM2—not only simplifies the process for formulators, it strengthens our position as a trusted, responsive partner.”
Bentley added that simplifying the portfolio makes the company's proprietary technology more accessible to the wider market, ensuring that beverage developers can achieve "maximum functionality with minimal formulation complexity."
